I'm looking for a pattern for a kimono-style or empire-line wrap dress for a toddler

I think it's unlikely that I'll ever get around to actually making it, but I fancy making something for DD. I like this general style, although it doesn't have to look exactly like that.

Also, recommendations for online places that sell interesting dress fabrics would be great. I have a huge stock of gorgeous quilting fabrics that I could use, but I think they would be annoying used as a dress fabric as they would crease easily.

their was a kimino styled dress in burda magazine a few months ago, not sure which month as would have to look.

i think you should get some kimino fat quarters on ebay from japan. some of the silk ones look very nice. its a thicker style fabric and does not seem so prone to creasing like cotton.

I was just looking for patterns and I found this. I think I should make it for DH for Christmas, I think he would be thrilled.

I think, if I find a pattern, I might make a summery version first moocowme. I was thinking of cotton lawn or seersucker. I would like a nice strong pattern and colour though. DD looks a bit washed out in pale or pastel colours but looks amazing in a strong clear blue like cobalt. It's just hard to find light floaty fabrics in strong colours and patterns.

Relax everyone, I found it. It's a ModKids pattern called Kyoko.

There were also some truly gorgeous dress patterns on Etsy that I'm tempted by, like this reversible dress.

i think the etsy pattern would be the easiest to sew, but i must say i don't think grey is a little girls colour.

have you looked in JL for fabric? I was in toady briefly and they had some nice cottons. i usually buy my sons pj fabric in their as i like 100% cotton and it is a good quality.

do you know you can actualy make seerscker yourself. i shall have to lok up how to do this.

good luck with the pattern.

I think the Etsy one would look good with babycord on one side and a satin brocade on the other. I'm going to have a look for some in a nice bright blue or turquoise. And I'll probably use red ribbon for the tie, or perhaps burnt orange.

cheeky to mention it i know (if mn towers want to delete will understand) but i have a whole stack of ottobre magazines - have you ever seen one? they're really lovely kids patterns imo, european style. i'm about to ebay them but if you were interested would be happy to do good deal for a mnetter.

i used to buy fabrics from germany - printed cottons are easier to get now but nice knits are much harder to come across ime. not cheap though.

my favourite german site - you can plug it into google translate, but i found i picked up the key terms pretty quickly.

Thanks heartofgold, but I think that would be running before I can walk. I googled it and they are gorgoeus designs, but almost certainly beyond my capability. If I were only a tiny bit more machiavellian I would buy them for my mother who is a fantastic seamstress.

That fabric site is lovely, thank you. They have a gorgeous turquoise boiled wool that could work.

Quick question heartofgold, what is a fabric made out of if it's 100%CO? I do speak some German, but fabric construction beyond baumvolle and volle is too technical for me.
