Patterned vintage/retro fabric for dressmaking?

I've finished my sewing lessons and now want to attempt to make something for myself.

Where can I get some patterned fabric.

The weirder the better.

I'm thinking cowboys or robots etc

This is one of the most common questions we get asked! Patchwork fabric is usually sold off a 110cm (44") width bolt ? a fat quarter is half a metre cut off the bolt, then cut in half again, so it is approximately 50cm x 55cm (20" x 22") in size (a ?fat? quarter metre). A long quarter is simply a quarter metre cut off the bolt, so the finished size would be 110cm x 25cm (44" x 10").

If you want authentic vintage fabric, ebay would be a good bet.

i've ordered the amy butler tunic pattern.

Gentleotter, the fabric on that one is fab.

you need to find a local market that sells fabrics. you get fbric cheaply that way.

that amy butler pattern is nice, you could use quilting cotton for it as it comes in all sorts of designs but would be a bit more expensive.

you could try ebay, I have had some good stuff over the years.

fabric.com has some great fabrics & their sales make it a viable option to get sent from the UK.

I'll be watching to see if anyone knows of a uk type reprodepot, my living room curtains are made with some of their fabric, imported at great expense! I couldn't find a single thing in the UK that was as perfect.
