Hi,

I know that a lot of you are busy crafting for christmas as should I be but I need to offload and thought it would be nice to have a thread we can offload about crafty stuff/other stuff/whatever amongst like minded fidgety fingers!

I spent today at teh soft play with DD's. DD1 has a friend in her class she has been begging to have over for lunch, but I don't really know her or her mum (they are 3) so we decided to take them both to soft play for lunch. It was fun, and she is lovely, but it meant I felt really awkward getting my crochet out in front of a relative stranger.
My mates are used to me doing crochet while talking to them but I thought she might think I was being rude, so I got nothing done. It was so weird sitting there doing nothing!

I have also been offered a job interview tomorrow for a low paying job I neither want, nor can afford to take with nursery fees etc so I have said I will go but now I don't want to.

On the plus side I have finally found a coat for ridiculously tall DD1 here considering she has just grown out of her 4-5 yr one I have to get a 6 yr olds size for her

And breathe.

You could have a whole range there, Jack. ASRE and DCIK would be good too.

Am trying to spend less time doing this and more time creating. Tis bloody December tomorrow - argh. So much to do. Another bag yesterday...still playing about with the pattern but what I've made so far will have to do as there's not much time for re-making.

Chilli jam still in its separate parts, but at least the ingredients are in the house. Have also stuff for onion confit, at least that's a fairly quick make.
Am hoping the pig flu injection I had today won't slow the progress (Ha!) I'm making any further.

Hope everyone else is doing better.

JackBauer · 30/11/2009 18:10

Have no ingredients yet, still not fully decided what I am making, I think it will be yule log sweets and biscotti, so I need a cheap source of pistachios and cranberries, sooo expensive!

BUMPITlicious · 30/11/2009 18:15

Sounds classy Jack, bet he will love it though!

I have my lovely knitting group tonight, I love it, yummy cake, Cath Kidston kitchen, lots of inspiration (a jealousy, mostly SAHM with kids at school who can craft all day!).

JackBauer · 30/11/2009 18:33

I want a knitting/crochet group. We did have a sticth and bitch but has stopped

lolling at tawt hat. thanks everyone for birdie suggestions. am Bad Crafter, finally got round to attempting a prototype last night but not sure it's really working out, and not sure i have the energy for it tbh. i have a stocking to knit (if i can dig out the pattern) and some treee decorations to crochet that really have to be done, the birds were a whim and won't be missed if i can't do them, so am going to concentrate on getting the other stuff done instead i think.

KnottyLocks · 30/11/2009 20:55

I wish I could crochet...

How about using almonds instead of pistachios, Jack.

heartofgold · 30/11/2009 23:21

yay finally got something done. 2 crochet snowflakes down, approx. 20 more to go...

CharCharGabor · 01/12/2009 08:39

Hello everybody, hope you're all getting on ok. Sounds like everyone's been productive! I've managed part of my swap, yay! As well as some clay beads and beanbags for the children's presents. Just got to fill the beanbags and stitch shut later. Got bfing group this morning but hoping to get a bit done this afternoon. Will check in later

SparklyAlice · 01/12/2009 17:02

Not me CharChar, i have done nothing so far!

I got some felt yesterday, so going to have a play with that this evening. Also going to try to make some Honeycomb this evening, and practise making little paper cones to put it in. What do you think? A bit naff?

CharCharGabor · 01/12/2009 17:47

Oooh, sounds lovely, not naff at all! I love honeycomb.

I love sewing with felt as it's very forgiving and the edges don't fray. I need to get a move on with the children's felt finger puppets but got to fill the beanbags tonight and stitch them shut, that'll do me! Just quickly put this together for them in the bath tonight. I'm trying to find a use for a lot of our rubbish instead of putting it in the bin but I'm not doing very well!

CharCharGabor · 01/12/2009 19:38

Everyone should make that bubble thing for the bath, the children were made up! And it costed nothing. Did result in the bubbliest bath ever though

JackBauer · 01/12/2009 20:42

Char, that looks cool!
Will definately try that tomorrow after I cancelled bath tonight as they were fannying about deciding which soft toys to take to bed with them

I have done precisely fark all today. got the decorations out from under the stairs and put up my twig one in the kitchen. The girls have a small pound shop tree which looks like the decoration monster threw up on it so I gave up trying to get mine out.

new to do list though,
Fleece Mittens, scarves and hats for girls (it's so wet they are getting muddy too fast for washing/drying so need a new set)
Hat for BIL
wristlet for sister
flowers to decorate wristlets for other sister
ingredients for food things for next week
cake for DH
Bag for friend as well as baby blanket (not going well) bunny buddy toy and hat.
Pencil and pad holder for her DS
superhero eye mask for another friend of DD

And most importantly something for my grandpa who is 90 something this weekend
He is in a home and has a muscle disease which means he is mentally fine/alert but his body lets him down sometimes so he doesn't go out.
he was very, veyr active, cooked, built model trains etc and I want to make him something but no clue what. Even if I send photos he gives them to my aunt or my mum once he has looked once so can't think what to give him., plus I have never seen his room as it is other side of the country and not DD friendly.

help?

CharCharGabor · 01/12/2009 20:54

It was very very cool, just make sure to keep wetting the towel so it stays bubbly. A warning though, you will prob end up doing most of the blowing and I'd advise sitting down. I nearly passed out!

I've done nowt either today, I had good intentions but was tired. Think I'll fill the beanbags in a mo though as I'm bored. I need to make a new to do list as I've not a clue where I'm up to. Am thinking not far!

DD has a black eye today after falling and headbutting the wall yesterday. I didn't think it was that obvious but everyone noticed it, oops! She's teething her 2 year molars and is a whingy nightmare with them, can't wait til they're through!

Hmmmm, will have a think about your grandpa Jack. Was thinking something to do with the trains but that's as far as my brain is getting.

heartofgold · 01/12/2009 23:37

fab bubble thing

another 2 snowflakes down tonight, must start earlier tomorrow.

wastingmyfuckingeducation · 01/12/2009 23:58

I've just sewn up the sleeveless jumper. I may even block it tomorrow. I've never bothered before, but I think it will benefit from it.

The bubble thing looks very cool.

CharCharGabor · 02/12/2009 00:06

Well I've got the beanbags filled and stitched closed with my endearingly ([hmm) dodgy handsewing. Hopefully the children will enjoy throwing them at each other's heads. DP and I tested them out by throwing them at each other and it hurts enough to deter but not enough to scar So that's Christmas present 1 down and it cost nothing! Now if I can just keep up this level of productivity (doubtful) I might get all this finished for Christmas!

SparklyAlice · 02/12/2009 09:05

Morning You are all putting me to shame!!

I tried the honeycomb recipe yesterday, went a bit wrong, but i know where i went wrong so will have another go today.

Now, this is a secret.....I have made my secret santa present a button bracelet I am really hoping they like it. Will make a little bag for it this evening out of felt (i think) I fell in love with the buttons and really don't want to give it away

CharCharGabor · 02/12/2009 09:39

That's a lovely present, I'm hoarding buttons to make one at the mo as I think they're so pretty. Sorry your cooking went wrong, but at least it's easy to fix!

I'm feeling rotten today, don't know if it's pregnancy or illness but I'm feeling more sick than well atm with a nasty tummyache. So not expecting to get much done today.

SparklyAlice · 02/12/2009 12:24

When is your baby due?

I have just got some lovely little jars to put sweets/bathbombs in £2 each!

Also finally managed to get some citric acid for the bathbombs - Thank you Superdrug!!! So going to give those a go this afternoon. They should keep until christmas shouldn't they?

CharCharGabor · 02/12/2009 15:07

Baby's due 28th Feb, which couldn't come sooner! Went back to bed for an hour this morning and I'm feeling better now

Good on finding the jars and acid, was wondering where you'd get that actually so will keep in mind. I would imagine they would keep but I don't know much about them tbh.

SparklyAlice · 02/12/2009 15:35

I tried everywhere! Boots, Lloyds and Holland and Barrett don't sell it, but tried Superdrug as a last resort and they had it. Hopefully DH can get it through work though which will work out cheaper.

Made some mini heart shaped bathbombs this afternoon. First lot were too wet and just fizzed up, and the second load are ok, a couple are brill but some are a bit 'fragile' think i might try a bit of talc in the mould first to stop them absorbing any moisture. Good fun though.

Have given the honeycomb another go, just waiting for it to cool to see if it is better than yesterday.

Have got loads of walnuts, wondering what i can do with them.....

JackTheHallsWithBauersOfHolly · 03/12/2009 10:08

Morning all!

Tense this morning and DD2 has what I suspect is Impetigo, so we will be confined to barracks for forseeable, but at least I will be able to get some stuff done...

Char, I put the girls in the bath last night and realised I had forgotten to make a foam thing, so I improvised with an old shampoo bottle, a pair of nail scissors, a flannel and some hair bands. it was brilliant!

Made DD2's hat scarf and gloves yesterday but DD1's gloves did not work so am going to give up as I forgot father christmas has bought her some with faces on already
Also made BIL's hat while waiting at doc's so that another thing nearly done, need to make applique letters now...
Also started a little soemthing for my christmas swap person, but it needs some more things...(have made a teeny rag doll, about 2 inches tall, need to get elf clothes and a bed for it!)

Need to make lots of stuff today, finish

JackTheHallsWithBauersOfHolly · 03/12/2009 10:11

Huh! what happened there.

Anyway, need to finish a few wristlets and a notepad/pencil holder for friends DS.
I really need some fabric but I have to either buy it cheap from fabricland.co.uk with £8 delivery or from the grumpy shop in town which is twice the price, plus parking and a nightmare to get to.....

More irritating news is m,y mum has put £50 in my bank account today for fuel to go and see her, and I want to speeeeeeeeeeeeend it!

KnottyLocks · 03/12/2009 11:23

morning.

Liking the name Jack, must get round to sorting mine.

Another bug has hit our house. Chicken pox this time. DS2 has it, but DS1 hasn't so it's just a matter of time.

The little fella is hectic and clingy (nice combo) so I'm struggling to get much done. And there's sooooo much still to do. Hoping he's going to have a major sleep sometime soon so I can get on. Waiting for the Piriton to kick in .

KnottyLocks · 03/12/2009 11:28

Jack, what about making and sending a nice fruit cake or similar to your Grandpa?
