Hi,

I know that a lot of you are busy crafting for christmas as should I be but I need to offload and thought it would be nice to have a thread we can offload about crafty stuff/other stuff/whatever amongst like minded fidgety fingers!

I spent today at teh soft play with DD's. DD1 has a friend in her class she has been begging to have over for lunch, but I don't really know her or her mum (they are 3) so we decided to take them both to soft play for lunch. It was fun, and she is lovely, but it meant I felt really awkward getting my crochet out in front of a relative stranger.
My mates are used to me doing crochet while talking to them but I thought she might think I was being rude, so I got nothing done. It was so weird sitting there doing nothing!

I have also been offered a job interview tomorrow for a low paying job I neither want, nor can afford to take with nursery fees etc so I have said I will go but now I don't want to.

On the plus side I have finally found a coat for ridiculously tall DD1 here considering she has just grown out of her 4-5 yr one I have to get a 6 yr olds size for her

And breathe.

I've finished the top for Quilt No 2 at about 2am this morning and it is sewn together. I'm not going to have time to quilt it but it will do gfor now

On with Quilt No 3 tonight

Still have all the pressies to wrap too

JackTheHallsWithBauersOfHolly · 24/12/2009 13:50

I've done loads of ami's and got bored with them for a bit. I think I want to sew something. I have a bag to make for a friend, and then it is my best mates birthday, no idea what to make her....

Go dizzy!

I gave my friend her rainbow blanket and hat earlier, I handed it to her DH at the door as the MW was there and was heading back to the car when she came out al breathless to say thanks, and then texted me twice to say the same, the soppy cow

dizzyday07 · 24/12/2009 15:04

The top for Quilt No 3 was finished at 3.30am this morning so will sew it together once DD has gone to bed tonight!!

JackTheHallsWithBauersOfHolly · 24/12/2009 15:11

Dizzy, Dizzy

dizzyday07 · 25/12/2009 02:17

The quilts are finished as much as they are going to be - just hope the kids like them now!!

Merry Christmas everybody and I hope Santa brings you all what you asked for

JackTheHallsWithBauersOfHolly · 27/12/2009 08:19

Mornign all. Been in a crafting slump last few days but yesterday I ordered 3 crochet books and a crossstitch book from amazon so hopefully will be inspired soon!

I have also gone over and over my Inside Crochet magazines and decided to make a ribbed jumper as my first item of clothing, eek!

Finished DH's lillte bro's hat, very very funny, will add a pic later.

CharCharGabor · 27/12/2009 09:22

Helloooo everybody, hope you all had a lovely Christmas I haven't done any crafting the last few days as have been too ill but am looking forward to trying out my new sewing machine So excited, it does so much more than my old machine. Two months now til DD2 is due (arrrrgh!) so need to get some serious sewing and tidying done.

Can't wait to see the hat Jack

JackTheHallsWithBauersOfHolly · 27/12/2009 19:36

Hope you are feeling better soon Char, still can't find my USB so can't uplaod pics, I wish I could text them somewhere or soemthing, anyone know of anywhere?
DD2 is now much better, but DD1 is bad, had her screaming last night that ehr tummy hurt and today she has been very clingy, weepy, etc, but at least she can voclaise and not just wail at me constantly, which is better in a way...

Have you all seen this thread? It is an appeal for bags for lines for kids having chemo, I have a load of cool fabric that kids might like so just need to source some soft tape and I can make a load. Shall we see how many we can make between us? It just looks like a bogstandard drawstring bag so shoudln;t be too hard!

ShepherdsWashedTheirLocks · 27/12/2009 21:40

Merry Post Christmassssssss!

Gawd, I feel like a right bloater.

Hope everyone is on the mend.

So, I have a few more bits to finish off before the inlaws descend, then the making for the January birthdays begins.

I fancy having a go at broaches and rings, possibly some cufflinks. And then there's a million things in my ideas book just waiting for a spare bit of time. Ha!

I'm up for making some of those bags you've linked to, Jack. I just need to finish of my urgent 'to do' stuff first. I'll have a closer look at the thread.

dizzyday07 · 27/12/2009 23:33

I've uploaded pics of the quilts

I didn't have time to make a softie for The Toy Society Christmas Drop so that is next on my list (hopefully I can sneak it in by the end of the year!!)

JackTheHallsWithBauersOfHolly · 28/12/2009 11:28

Oh very very cool.
THat one for your DS is brilliant, it is very 'boyey' but still a cosy 'traditional' looking quilt V cool.

JackTheHallsWithBauersOfHolly · 28/12/2009 20:20

Uploaded pics of my latest stuff here pics of teh tawt hat and the rainbow blanket are there. the hat is a small beanie in matching colours but being dim I forgot to take a photo!

CharCharGabor · 28/12/2009 22:08

Hi guys. Glad DD2 is better Jack and hope DD1 is soon too. DD is finally improved so I actually got some sleep last night but unfortunately I'm getting some pelvic pain which is waking me up. But never mind

Love the quilts dizzy, so gorgeous. That hat is brilliant Jack and the blanket is lovely. I was thinking of putting a blanket together for DD2 but I don't think it would be ready in time as I'm not accomplished enough yet.

SPeaking of DD2, she is due in 9 weeks [FUCK! emoticon] I have a ridiculous amount to make before then as well as the house to sort out so it's going to be hectic.

Have been playing with my new sewing machine today. It has an automatic buttonhole function which I am in love with and it does EVERYTHING Am going to have a lot of fun with it I think.

Phew, essay finished I was watching Day of the Triffids but some of the acting is so shite that I can't concentrate.

Happy crafting everyone

JackTheHallsWithBauersOfHolly · 28/12/2009 22:17

Dammit, I missed the triffids? iplayer here i come...

That blanket was all done in halftrebles and took 2 days, was well chuffed!

Am ed at 9 weeks, thats come around quick!

I love my buttonhole thing, only problem is remembering to sew on the buttons afterwards, if only it could do that too...

CharCharGabor · 28/12/2009 22:33

Aye, first half tonight and the rest tomorrow. I just can't take it seriously at all.

Blimey that is quick for a blanket, I managed a tiny knitted hat in 2 days and thought that was an achievement

Am Terrified at 9 weeks, I still had morning sickness when we started crafting! I have to give birth!

Am finally planning some clothes with buttons on now I can do buttonholes. According to my manual I can sew on buttons too [smug ] I haven't tried yet though.

JackTheHallsWithBauersOfHolly · 28/12/2009 22:39

Ah, don't get too excited, you can sew on buttons if they are boring flat ones like ona normal shirt. but if you want nice shank buttons you're on your own

RobynLou · 28/12/2009 22:44

hello all, can I join in? I make lots of different things, but mostly puppet dolls... you can see some of them here robynlouisewilson.blogspot.com/

I look forward to joining in :-)

CharCharGabor · 28/12/2009 22:55

Well I'll just do boring buttons forever then

Welcome Robyn and feel free to join in. Just had a nosey at your blog and your dolls are beautiful How do you make them?

RobynLou · 28/12/2009 23:26

Thankyou :-)
sticks, masking tape, tissue paper and glue - theres a little vid on my blog of me making a basic structure of a head from tape

JackTheHallsWithBauersOfHolly · 29/12/2009 07:56

Wow Robyn, they are lovely, very clever! And welcome!

Very excited as got email yesterdayv saying my new craft books are on their way, still waiting for inspiration....

JackTheHallsWithBauersOfHolly · 29/12/2009 09:08

Inspiration!
How beautiful are they!

RobynLou · 29/12/2009 10:08

oooh new craft books...I LOVE new craft books! and those wings are a very sweet idea

Nefertari · 29/12/2009 10:59

I have taken the plunge to buy a sewing machine in the sales. For those who recommended one for me on another thread somewhere (lost track ) I plumped for the Janome 525.

It's my first machine, and I have plenty of ideas, but the repairs to do first, which I put off because hand sewing was a chore!

JackTheHallsWithBauersOfHolly · 29/12/2009 13:22

I have ordered

Crochet Bouquet: Easy Designs for Dozens of Flowers Suzann Thompson
201 Crochet Motifs, Blocks, Patterns and Ideas"
Melody Griffiths
Crochet in No Time: 50 Scarves, Wraps, Jumpers and More to Make on the Move (In No Time)"
Melody Griffiths
and
500 Flower and Animal Cross Stitch Designs"
Julie S. Hasler;

But nothing today

The 201 motif book has a crochet alphabet so am going to use it to make DD's name bunting banners for their room and as presents for their friends so I really want it before we go away so I can crochet int eh car!

Am plotting with the wings....

CharCharGabor · 29/12/2009 20:29

I'll have a look at the video on your blog Robyn, the dolls are so whimsical that I just can't resist giving it a go.

Those wings are gorgeous Jack, may have to give them a go myself once I've made a dent in my to do list. I hope your books come tomorrow, according to Amazon I'm due books tomorrow too. I'm getting the Politics of Breastfeeding and This Is Not A Book. Really excited about the second one as it seems so different

Nefertari, I've just got a Janome machine and so far I love it. Can't believe how dodgy my old one must have been though, this one is so quiet! Joining this thread will make your to do list increase but it's still fun

I have bought some fabric today to make dresses for DD2 and my friend's new baby who is due 6 days after mine. One fabric is a gorgeous pale leafy green, looks like a linen blend, soooo lovely. The other is a retro pink flowery one for the lining of the dress. Supposed to be starting in a minute if I can drag myself away from MN Can't wait to make something pretty again
