Casting off in knitting....

I've managed to do it all the way, apart from the very last stitch left on the needle; what do I do with that? If I take the needle out, it'll just fall to bits...

Pull it out a bit to make a bigger loop so you dont lose it. Break the yarn, take the stitch off the needle. Put the yarn through the loop and pull, it kind of knots itself

Cut off the wool with a long tail,

Take the needle out!

(carefully - and make the loop big!!)

thread the cut-off wool end through the loop and pull so the loop tightens!

Or put the remaining ball of wool through the last stitch ( pulled to make it big enough to take the ball of course) and then cut the wool. Make sure you sew that end in to the finished product, don't just cut it short.

a four inch long rectangle

my first ever project!!

It is going to be incorporated into a blanket, but is too many stitches long, so I cast off and am doing a smaller square
