Knitting: Help! What is a 'wrong side row'?

I am following a pattern in 'Debbie Bliss Essential Baby' for a duffle coat. It says " end with a wrong side row", I am using garter stitch and am confused!

If you are using garter stitch thats all knit rows yes?

Usually in a stocking stitch pattern the wrong side row is the purl side, ie the more bumpy side.

So, with garter stitch as both sides look the same.... I don't think it matters.

Thanks Flibberty, I was hoping that was the case!

It can matter, as a pattern may require the same number of rows. So what I do with a garter stitch pattern is to take a little length of contrasting thread, thread it through the work and make a little bow on the right side of the work.
You can work out what that is at this stage by looking at where the little bit of left over thread after casting on is. This will be on the left if you have knitted up the stitches when you cast on but on the right if you used finger and thumb method.
Hth and doesn't utterly confuse you. As Flibberty says, it doesn't really matter too much, knitting is quite forgiving anyway.

Dutchoma, thank you, that makes it very clear, wish I'd known that when I was casting on!
