Decorating plastic garden troughs/pots

I have already posted this in the gardening section, but thought it was worth posting here too.

I have a couple of empty white plastic garden troughs. They are a good size and would be perfect for what I need, just they look a bit stark and ugly against the wall.

Rather than chucking them out and splashing out on something different, I'm thinking of getting creative and painting patterns etc on them.

Has anyone done this before? If so, what kind of paint works and will a) stay on plastic and b) be fairly weatherproof & suitable for outside?

An added bonus would be something that a toddler could join in with - though if nothing was suitable in that regard I could wait until DD was asleep to get arty!

Thanks

You need to mix regular paint with PVA and make sure it is well dried before putting it out. It will not survive frost but then nothing much will. You can try enamel paint but it's fiercely expensive. 50% PVA to 50% poster paint is good.

Thanks for your post wmmc - sorry it took so long to get back - I forgot to come back and check for responses

I think I may well give that a go - and it sounds DD-friendly also which is a bonus .

Thanks very much
