I would like to take this up, but when I looked at the starter kits they seem very variable in price and contents - which tools would I need to start with? also, any great links woudl be gratefully received. many thanks!

I do. I tend to make the type of stuff you thread onto wire/cord and then add fasteners rather than the beaded stuff that involves tiny beads and sewing.

Personally the tools I use are:
2 x flat nose pliers
1 x round nose pliers
1 x crimp pliers
1 x wire cutters

cheers nutty - where do you get your supplies from?

I make and sell my own jewellery

Tools wise

1 wire cutters
1 crimp pliers
1 round nose
1 chain nose pliers(half round)
1 flat nose.

I do wirework jewellery rather than threading jewellery so also have lots of other tools, but these are the basics you would need for starting up.

I use www.beadservice.co.uk for basic jewllery items, they are reasonably priced and they deliver very quickly.

A great site to get great advice from for all types of jewellery making is ukbeaders.forumup.org/index.php?mforum=ukbeaders&sid=cd2a864fb46de6a1bca9e7b33e509736.

They cover all types of jewellery making, also search the net, there are literally thousands of free tutorials out there for whatever type of jewellery making you want to learn.

Good Luck

Ditto Moonmothers link to UK Beaders - a wealth of info on the forum + links to loads of good site for buying online

Warning....it's highly addictive - you always need 'just a few more beads'

TheRealSecretLemonadeDrinker · 25/03/2009 18:27

yes, I think I agree already! dh has limited me to a budget of £50 after hearing of a friend who has never made any money selling as she spends everything on more beads....

thanks for the links

A bead mat is very useful - stops them rolling around all over the place. Rather a mat than a tray. I get the beads stuck in the grooves.

www.bijouxbeads.co.uk/This is my current favourite shop and they have a gorgeous catalogue too.

Ebay is great too.

£50 will never be enough.
