Wallpaper panel - what could I paste the paper onto?

The walls of my newly decorated living room are a bit bare. Ideally I'd invest in some good art, but that's not going to happen, so I was thinking of making a large panel using one of the really bold wallpapers available. It would be about 2m x 1.5m.

Does anyone think it's a good idea and what could I paste onto?

a huge canvas? I cannot get frames for some cross stitches I have done for the dds so I got some canvases and I am going to glue them on.

I think you can use hardwood. Dont paint it first but make sure its sanded. I take it thats what you want to do, not paste straight onto the wall?

I think it's a great idea - I have been thinking of doing it myself in one of our rooms as I don't want to wallpaper the wall ( we spend ages removing layers of wallpaper when we move in and had all the walls replastered).

I think a large sheet of card/cardboard would work but don't know where you would get that from. MDF would be easier to get hold of but don't know if the paper would rip more easily at the corners. Or how about a sheet of plasterboard?

The other alternative would be to buy a length of fabric instead. You could fold over a bit at one end and hem to make a slot to thread through a wooden dowel and then hang it by that...

I have done that in a couple of rooms, I took some lovely wall paper that complemented the room and put them in those large perspex frames you ould get in woolies or wilkinsons and then when I wanted to hange the theme of the room I change the wall paper in the frame.

I've done this with the large canvases you can buy cheaply in Au naturale.

You can staple it at the back to doubly ensure it stays put at the corners.
