Dying a pair of shoes

I'm going to a wedding next week and bought a lovely outfit for it. Red shoes/sandals would go perfect with this outfit, but I can't find a pair I like. However, I have a pair I bought 2 years ago which were expensive but only wore once - to another wedding. They're a lovely design, if only they were red and not light green!
I vaguely remember people dying shoes in the 70s. Does anybody know if there's any good reliable shoe dye or paint I can use that won't come off on my tights, and where I can buy it? And we're in a recession so it makes good economical sense.
Thank you in advance.

What material are the shoes? I've used the dylon dyes, but on the shinier leather ones I tried it just looked like paint and sort of flaked a bit. The stitching wouldn't dye either for some reason. The suede dye I've used was more successful.

Hi, Suzi, thanks a million for your reply. They're leather, not the shiny type. So is the suede type dye okay to use on leather?

sorry, should have said the suede dye was on suede!

If they're old shoes and you're not overly attached to them then I'd say it's worth a shot. I couldn't tell you how much the dye is as I stole it off my mum
