Cross stitch - hoop or no hoop?

SlightlyMadScotland · 05/03/2009 22:34

I have done a reasonable amount of over the years (started when I was an ickle girl!). I have never used a hoop or frame as I have never got on with them.

BUT I will be getting an exquisit and large Dimensions Gold Collection piece for my birthday this or this for the nosey buggers!

Do I try and persevre with a hoop for this to get a good finish? Does a more expensive hoop make a difference? Does a hoop eally make that much difefrence?

A hoop definitely makes a difference. I actually have a square frame, does the same thing really. it keeps you work "square", and gives you something to hold onto,

i like to use a hoop

I don't have room for a full frame and stand.

The 2 main reasons I have not got on with a hoop is that it keeps falling apart - although I have only every had cheap ones. And It like to go up and down with my sticthes in one go IYSWIM...and I find that difficult with a taught cloth. First problem might be solved with a quality hoop...latter is still going to be a PITA

A frame will definitely keep it flat and even. I use a square plastic tube frame or a roller frame and you will soon get into the routine of stitching in two movements - it won't take much longer than stitching in one movement.

Love the dolphins picture!

So would you go for dolphins to display on teh bedroom wall (my bedroom is v pale lilac) or Santa to display at the seasonal time?

I can't decide. I want both.
