am hoping to set up my shop but am clueless as to how a person prices the cost of packaging and posting...does one just wrap the item up as if sending, see how much the padded envelope costs and ask post office how much to send ? And what if the person wanted several items ? do they all go together ? argh !

Yeah, you could weigh them on kitchen scales and look up royal mail for prices / weight.

If the stuff you are selling will all be roughly the same weight (or at least the same "band" in Royal mails pricing structure) just set a standard p&p rate.

Probably cheaper in long run to use brown paper and bubble wrap (saw rolls for 50p in tesco a few days ago) I dont know about Folksy (just about to go find the site now to be nosey) but on Ebay, sellers offer a discount on multiple items.

Hi - I have been with ebay for 5 years, and now with etsy and folksy too! When I first started out, I would look to see what others charged for the same or similar items and then priced accordingly!
From experience customers do like a discount if you send more than one item - I tend to weigh using my kitchen digital scales, then if you go the Royal mail web site, they will tell you how much an item would cost with that weight. It's all down to experience and once you start selling you will get use to prices - but well worth just perusing through ebay at similar items you may sell and then using their prices as a guide...hope that helps! Tesco do a good run in bubble wrap and brown paper, or just save small boxes for more delicate items. Ebay are good for packaging too!

Don't forget to also factor in somewhere into your prices the costs for Paypal fees, Folksy listing, any business cards you include etc as well as the actual envelope, wrapping, stamp costs.
