activity for boys at party - make a magic wand?????

at DD's birthday party, after the entertainer and food but before they are collected I am going to offer them the chance to make a fairy wand. For the boys, I thought perhaps a magic wand but have no idea how/what/etc? Any help very gratefully recieved.
For the fairy wands I have felt that I will cut out two shapes for each child to glue together over the stick. Then I have small glitter stars, hearts etc to decorate it with (using glue) plus ribbon to be attached as a streamer effect.
Does this sound okay?

TIA

how old are they?

sorry to say my 2 older ones would hate that - its too simple and they would both question why. They are nearly 4 and nearly 6

I wouldn't call it a fairy wand whatever you do .

I would be tempted to just stick to games, but activity parties are getting more commen so they might not think it strange to make something.

birthday girl is going to be 4 MoM. The entertainer is a fairy hence the fairy theme and the wand idea. I only imagine it being a 5 minute interlude. DD has invite 4 boys which is why the magic wand is necessary.

DD has vetoed pass the parcel but we plan on doing a version of musical chairs and the bean game. I don't fancy 'pin the tail on the donkey' as it only really involves the one child at a time. Any other suggestions for games etc gratefully received.

TIA

ps. I have never done a party at home before now, not for DS either (he is older) so I'm learning as I go along

You could make it a option, a craft table they can visit if they want.

mckenzie · 01/03/2009 17:49

yes, it will definitely be optional. Luckily DD has an older brother so there will be 'boys toys' waiting in the wings in case the male guests don't appreciate the entertainer (we have seen her with boys of a similar age though and they seemed just as enamoured as the girls were).

reduce the length of the party.

I can't now as invites been sent out but I wouldn't want to make it any shorter than two hours anyway (which is what we have said on invites). Entertainer is coming for 1 hour.

hi we've done this lots of times, boys love them!

you can make wands out of card, roll some a4 size up quite tightly and the sticks will be strong.

you can do some boyish shapes for the top like a skull and crossbones, spider, cars loads of things really.

or just leave it as a wand with nothing on top though they tend to whack each other with them if left like that .

good luck!

thanks southeastastra. I appreciate your comment as I was starting to panic!
