DD makes them and the most entusiastic recipients are my Mum and Dad - they use them as coasters for their cups of tea in the morning ..( Bless )
I thought that the whole point was to irone them so that the holes sort of disappear ... I have learnt a few things hoever ....

  • DOn't use the steam option on the iron
  • Don't press too hard - otherwise you melt the mould
  • Hot Iron - and make it short and swwet.
  • Once you have ironed both sides - plaes the "design" under something heavy whilst it cools - otherwise it starts to cool at the edges
  • Iron as SOON AS your little angel produces them - otherwise you have loads of these things - with loose beads - and one knock and they spill everywhere

God I'msad

Was tempted to try thes today at Hobbycraft. They had the Maxi beads there in kits from about £7. They also had the regular size beads and the mini beads which I have never seen before!!
I feel they are still a bit small for dd ATM though! We will stick to our counting camels, numicon and bead threading for a while!

I agree - does make you get the iron out, doesn't it, Litterach?

At Xmas we got snowmen to make and stuck em on Xmas cards.

And then there's the Barbie ones

hatsoff · 16/04/2005 23:48

stupid question alert: once ironed are they permanently stuck together? ie if I get some for dd's birthday am I committing myself to a house full of plastic beaded coasters and figurines. Or can they be dismantled and put away til next time?

Fimbo · 16/04/2005 23:54

No, once they are stuck, thats it.

Has anyone got any ideas for keeping the little blighters from spilling and ruining the pattern. The tiniest knock and they go everywhere. DD has now advanced on to quite large patterns that take ages and cannot be done in one go but we have had SO many tears because they got knocked or even just moving them off the table can cause the whole lot to go.

hmmmm. God I'm shallow. I think I just have to face up to it and give up all hope of a trendy house filled only with beautiful object d'art. until the kids have left home, by which time I'll be too old to be trendy and I'll miss them so much I'll want to surround myself with their beaded coasters. There really is no hope.

A rubber placemat can help with knocke etc.

But more die on the way to ironing......

tiddlypom · 17/04/2005 22:23

It means you just have to have that iron at the ready, at all times.

It's hell trying to secretly remake them as well, if it's you that spilt them.
