What sort of thing are you after?

I made my own - white card with a pink paper insert and a hand-painted rose on the front. But there were only 25 & I had to do each one, also matchig place cards.

Or my MIL makes cards with pressed flowers on, if you're interested.

I made my own, and am NOT the arty type.
I found a crafty type wholesale place and got
White prefolded card and envelopes
Sheets of papyrus
Little roses (think theyre used for cake decor)
Green florists sticky ribbon
Stickers that said 'wedding invitation' and 'evening invitation'
White organza ribbon
Cut papyrus to slightly smaller than card, print using home pc.
Glue in.
Wrap green ribbon round little roses, tie organza ribbon into bow, stick to rose and stick on front.
Put 'invite' stickers on front.

Done.
They looked almost the same as handmade cards that I had seen in a brochure. They would have cost me £70, mine cost £20.

TBH, you can spend an absolute fortune, and they can be exactly what youve envisioned, and imagine people going into raptures over how gorgeous youre invites are, but the truth is, most people just stick them on the mantel and dont really give a toss.

Dont mean to sound cruel, nicola, but its not worth getting so frustrated over.

i made mine

its very very easy

mine were :

beige cards - ripped a piece of white mulberry paper into rectangle , stuck with double sided tape, i used a glue gun to glue on a large ish cream flower and used rub on letters to "write" wedding. I glued an insert inside that i had done on photoshop.

saved myself about £100

nicolamumof3 · 21/02/2009 22:19

ok maybe i should take a trip to crafty shop then. don't have printer which is what puts me off obviously!

Could you ask a friend to print them for you?

BettySwollux · 21/02/2009 22:24

Or even have the inserts printed professionally, and do the rest of the cards yourself?

nicolamumof3 · 21/02/2009 22:29

good idea, im probably just being lazy. just art mad toddlers and making my own invites i can just imagine it if they get their hands on the stuff!!!

My 28yr old niece is very clever at making cards etc, I could ask her or put you in touch if you like, she is making some atm for a wedding, she also made her own when she got married, we live by the sea so she made it all shell themed, they were beautiful.

LoveaDAISYcal · 21/02/2009 22:36

I made my own too.

white card with a square of lilac mulberry paper. then got some teeny white roses and teeny thistles and twined them together and stuck it on with a bit of leave. DH is from Yorks and I'm Scottish so represented the two of us.

The insers I got some parchment paper (was like a heavy opaque tracing paper) and printed out the wording. the hardest bit was getting it squared up to be the most efficient use of the paper.

place cards I put a slash of the mulberry paper across one corner and did alternate rose and thistles.

I never used any of the wording stickers as it was pretty obvious reading the inside what you were invited to and I think they make cards look a bit too homemade as opposed to handmade iyswim!

some of the pre-printed ones that you can buy these days look really nice. Tesco have quite a big selection in their bigger stores.

Where abouts are you Nicola?

Dalrymps · 21/02/2009 22:41

I made my own, designed them in photoshop and printed them on card then finished the front of them of with kind of transparent pannels sewn on with silver thread that were printed with my wedding flowers and I used a stamp to add silver butterflies to the front too. Were very nice if I do say so myself but took me ages due to having to hand sew the pannels on...

I am arty, did art at college and got a degree in 3D design so that all helped .

Do you have any ideas in your mind what kind of thing you are looking for?

nicolamumof3 · 21/02/2009 22:41

triplets have cat'd you!

To add to your home-made confusion:

We made ours for next to nothing -
a ream of cream paper from Staples
good quality tracing paper
organza ribbon
mulberry handmade paper
a paper guillotine

We printed our invite onto the tracing paper, along with a colour watercolour of our reception venue in the background.
We used the cream paper behind the tracing paper, and another sheet for an RSVP card.
All wrapped in mulberry to make a little booklet and tied with ribbon.

We got 4 invites/A4 - bargain!

All it takes is someone to lend you a printer and a bit of faffing on Publisher...

triplets · 21/02/2009 22:48

Just peeped and it hasn`t arrived yet, I am in Kent too, do we perhaps know each other?

nicolamumof3 · 22/02/2009 08:12

If you live by the sea im guessing not Triplets im in Tonbridge? i did cat you sometimes they take a while to come through?

LOL...I am in Kent too!

If you still need someone, or some idea's/help, just give me a shout. I've been making cards for about 6 yrs now, mainly one of personalised cards but I have done a few Wedding Orders.

Do you know what sort of thing you are after?

You can see some of my cards here

nicolamumof3 · 22/02/2009 13:48

Dingle · 22/02/2009 14:04

Roughly how many are you talking here please? I will of course be happy to design a few to give you some ideas...no commitment but I don't want to do something too time consuming if you needed so many I couldn't meet your deadlines!

nicolamumof3 · 22/02/2009 14:35

The wedding is in July, it will be quite a few, about 40 plus another 20-30 evening invites i would think so yes quite a bit.

Last year my friends were getting mariied so they bought quitea few card-making kits from a cheapo shop (lots of sparkly things etc along with the pre-cut card and envelopes), we borrowed the printer at work (obviously with own nice-coloured paper) and 4 of us went round one evening to stick things onto the cards.

You can have quite a fun cutting-and-sticking evening, especially if you just declare the colour scheme (by only providing stuff in that colour) and let each one be a bit different, so your friends get to play rather than just copying the pattern.

TrillianAstra · 22/02/2009 14:44

Like this only cheaper and not birthday-themed.

triplets · 24/02/2009 21:57
