Quilters Guild VERY VERY professional organisaton (i.e. not for pleb quilters like me). Our local quilter's groups all advertise in craft shops. Some of the quilting magazines have group listings at the back.

thanks!

i'll pop down to my most local quilting shop, which is unfortunately miles away, but they might have something for my area.

i don't think i'll join the quilters' guild just yet then...

Dis you see this? www.quiltersdomain.co.uk/page_find.asp?t=1

Where are you based, Warthog? (Don't get your hopes up, I'm highly unlikely to be able to suggest anything unless you're in n. Wales!)

bran · 29/01/2009 21:03

The Quilters Guild is worth joining IMO, the magazine is very good. If you go to the regions section of the website and click on your region there is a heading for local groups which will give you a listing of places to start.

onfriday, great link! unfortunately the closest group to me is literally miles away...

essie3, i'm in south west london.

bran, i think i will join the quilters guild even though i'm a complete beginner. lots of inspiration i'm sure!

Ha! So am I when I'm not in Wales! Of all the...!!
For supplies, I'd suggest a visit to the craft superstore in Tooting Bec if that's anywhere near you, and they may know of quilters - although I think there's a shortage.
There's a great shop in Kew, I think, too, and also a v. good one in Dorking.

ontheup · 03/02/2009 21:46

Quilt University is also v good...www.quiltuniversity.com/
Warthog I recognise you from a knitting thread, if you are on ravelry there's a quilting group there too.

warthog · 03/02/2009 22:31

essie3, yes, i've spotted the quilting shop in kew and was due to go there this week! hence lots of snow.

ontheup, yes, am a veteran knitter. recently just completely lost any desire to knit hence quilting is the new knitting! didn't know about the group on ravelry. thanks for the tip. haven't spent much time on ravelry due to the asbo on my mojo.
