Talk to me about plaster of paris powder?

We have a mould-your-own-and-paint-it kit. White powder, you mix with a set amount of water. I thought it was mixed enough, but really we had slurry and some water. The mould only solidified half way up, the rest was water.

So how do I make sure the goop is fully mixed? Is there a trick to this?

I've always just mixed it like I would polyfiller until it turns out the consistency I want (probably pouring cream in your case)

were there instructions? it should say how much water to powder.

plaster of paris is equal parts powder and water - stir gently until cream consistency - i've just been doing this this morning, making my ds2's handprints in clay then casting them in plaster.

It did specify how much water to use, but it didn't mix up right. I'll have to be more careful with mixing, next time.
