I've offered to do a floral display for the top table at my little bother's wedding in a few weeks but am clueless (I know, why did I offer?).
The colour scheme is silver and the only thoughts i've had are to do it in a gig glass vase I have (it's gorgeous) and to put some little lights in it. Other than that I have no idea what to do so ANY ideas and idiot tips would be great.
I might have tp do it a couople of days ini advance- is this feasible?
TIA

is it for a round table, ie for the centre or are they having a long traditional type top table?

The main thing on a round table is people need to be able to see each other, so you either go low, or something very tall, you can buy huge martini type glasses (saw some in TK maxx) then the arrangement spills over the top and dangles down.

Long table tends to be low and hang over edge

Have a look at some florist websites for ideas, there is a lovely florists website with photos on www.tiger-rose.co.uk

You can do it a couple of days in advance and keep it somewhere really cool (easy at this time of year!) in a shed or garage. You would need to get your main flowers a few days before anyway to give them time to open a bit.

Use foliage from garden (you could even spray some of this silver). Silver, green and cream go really well together.

And little lights would really set it off.

What flowers are going to be on the other tables? Why is the top table display needing to be different? It would be best to try and have them linked together in some way.

Haha! Why did you offer?
If I was you i would go and buy one!
and pretend i madeit!

Thanks for the advice!
I offered because we are frantically saving money atm and it seemed easier and cheaper than buying a present! I do enjoy doing things like this and generally do an OK job but I lack imagination in designing them!
It isn't a traditional wedding... They are having a very small ceremony (we're not actually going) then a party later on with a buffet. There's no formal seating but there will be long tables nd the 'top' table will be slightly longer- the other tables won't have flowers on them.
WE have to drive for 6 hours to get there (along with flowers)so it would be easier to do it in advance.
The main colours are blue and silver so I guess the flowers ahouls be in this theme. Am i best to use an oasis or just put them in water? And what flowers and foliage would be best? Would a big silver ribbon just be naff?

good site for inspiration

Sorry - I am rubbish at anything artistic, but it sounds like a lovely idea

Thanks TSm that site looks lovely. Now I'll fall in love with something that I have no chance of ever being able to recreate

Well I personally much prefer the really simple looking ones (no idea if they'd be simple to do though !). The big glass vases with a single stem submerged in water with a candle on top. Could even do silver twigs with a blue candle on top ......or something [clueless emoticon]

Great ideas, thank you.
From looking at the links I think I'm going to use my tall square vase, put a layer of pebbles in the bottom, add some silver twigs/ting with fairy lights wrapped round them and add a few carefully placed flowers in at the last minute. Does this sound OK?!
