Is it normal to feel like you need a stiff drink after an afternoon's crafting with your children?

Cos making some xmas decorations with my 4 yo DD has brought me to the verge of a nervous breakdown

I mean in theory it's a lovely, enjoyable, seasonal activity together, why do I now feel like throttling someone!

well, if this was in the Aibu section I would heartily say YANBU

Like you say the idea is great....but like you, by the end of it I am ready to scream, too....lol

Lol, a good stiff drink generally sounds good to me after craft time.

As soon as I read the OP I thought of that French and Saunders sketch. I first saw that before I had children and as a result have never attempted messy crafts at home. I leave that to DH, who has never seen the sketch and therefore enters into each crafting session in an upbeat mood and has to be calmed and soothed after the session.

I attempted to paint some wooden decorations with my 3 and 7 year old.
Usually I hang around and say paint that bit red etc. Thought today get a cup of tea and leave them to it, who cares if father christmas has a navy blue suit and a black beard or the stars are multicoloured or we have a green reindeer.

Oh thank god I just read this - it's made me feel much better. Only a minute ago I was asking DH if he though I was BU to do the xmas cards without the kids.

I am teetotal but after 'helping' to make a paper-mache balloon pig, I'm off to sniff out a bottle of port from the back of the cupboard.

Tea is just not cutting the mustard.
