Anyone got anything to turn him into a shepherd, King, wise man, donkey???!!!! I'm cheating here, I know, but someone help! I'll pay!

Have a look in Tescos, Sainsburys, Woolies(!), Asda, Mothercare - they all have a selection of Christmas dressing-up clothes (although not sure they have a donkey!)

Alternatively for a shepherd, put him in a man's shirt with a tea-towel on his head . That's what our school have asked for for DD1's shepherd outfit.

Aha, the tea towel on the head! Why didn't I think of that one?? What do I use to hold it on? Does it show that this is the first time I have done this?

Can't remember what they used last year (I cheated and bought DD1 a costume in Tescos when they were doing an offer, and it still fits, so she's wearing it again this year ). Maybe a long piece of string? I'm sure someone else will be along with a better idea . I'll ask DD1 what her classmates are using.

shepherd- white long sleeve top underneath
old towel/sheet with head hole tied around the waist with a cord, or a big shirt.
teatowel on the head tied with string or elasticated hairband
sandals

KIng/wise man, ditto but slightly brighter colours and crown

I've done donkey duits before, but a bit more invloved- if you have a jacket or anything in grey fleece, some leggings and make some ears.

sainsbury's have a big discount on dressing up clothes at the mo. MY mum got some for the children- esp. a rather fabby star- for a few pounds.

Pinkyminkee · 27/11/2008 13:50

apologies for spelling, windy newborn on lap!

wotulookinat · 27/11/2008 14:31

I did toy with the idea of making a donkey costume. I shall get myself down to sainsbury's tomorrow! (it's not really cheating, is it?)

not when they are only about 2 pounds each- I'd get one if you can!

wotulookinat · 27/11/2008 14:42

thanks for the tip

Matalan have nativity costumes at the moment.

maddylou · 27/11/2008 19:09

Shepherd`s headband----old tights, preferably 3 slightly different colours, cut off leg and use 3 strips plaited together ,test for size over tea towel and voila -nice and comfy too

wotulookinat · 27/11/2008 19:22

Now that is a great idea - I think even I can manage to make that!

Anyone seen a badger outfit? yes, badger, DD1's role in the nativity.

We do live in a rural area, so I will be checking road kill closely over the next couple of weeks!

PurplePillow · 27/11/2008 19:28

Or if you have one of those rope type hold backs for cutains, you could use thst to hold the tea towel on

Goober · 27/11/2008 19:36

Dressing gowns are brilliant for this kinda thing.

wotulookinat · 27/11/2008 20:21

I thought of a dressing gown, but I don't think Thomas the Tank Engine was around then A badger, hmmmm. Black trousers and top with a white line sewn down the back?

maddylou · 27/11/2008 20:25

dressing gown inside out!!

wotulookinat · 27/11/2008 20:28

Cor, why are you lot so much more sensible than me? I would never have thought of that!
