which width of curtains should I buy?

I am looking at buying some ready-made curtains, and need some advice on which width I should buy.

The curtains I like come in 2 widths, 137cm or 168cm per curtain. They are eyelet tops.

My window width, including architrave is 130cm, with an overall drop of 270cm.

I am tending towards the 168 width, as it might look a bit more luxurious, but I don't want to swamp the windows.

Which would you go for?

Do you have space either side of the window - how wide is your curtain pole. We usually make eyelet headed curtains up at about 2 x fullness or perhaps even a little less.

Yes we have space on either side, and I haveen't bought the poles yet.

So would you suggest the 137 width?

sorry ... are they saying that each curtain is 137cm wide?

Yes, each curtain is 137cm, so 274cm in total for a pair.

you only need the 137cm width .... we usually make curtains at 2.5 times the fullness of the window but with eyelet headed curtains you need far less fullness and the 137cm should be fine!

Thank you so much

Now, can I ask you about retro fitted interlining?

I was hoping to sew interlining into these curtains (our windows are only single glazed).

What I was thinking if doing was to unpick the hem, turn the curtain inside out, then sew some interlining to the top of the lining, then turn it all back the right way out.

Does this sound like a good idea? Would I need to sew the interlining down the sides, or would it hang better not sewn in at the sides?

ooh now you are asking ... I don't make them my maker does ... you may be better asking someone more crafty on here than me!
