How much to charge?

Ive been asked to make a cot sized quilt.Ive no idea how much to charge. It will take me about 3days to make(just doing bits here and there, not constantly working) And materials will cost me about 10pounds. I am just starting out so Ive got quite a bit of over heads so they price of each blankets materials should come down. Is 15pounds about the right price?

Please help.

sorry not much help, but £15 sounds too cheap to me for a hand-made quilt, especially with the materials costing you a tenner.

Ruby- Ekkk that seems like a lot but as I said I dont really know what to charge. The quilt is for a friend so I dont want to charge her too much. I would love to charge 30quid but Im not sure if folk would buy them at that price.

Do you mean actual quilting? Or a duvet cover? And is it for a friend?

If not a friend and quilting I would say £40-£45ish.

MeAndB · 06/10/2008 14:55

Yeah its an actual patchwork quilt and yes its for a really good friend(one for her and she wants to give one as a christmas present)

Used to make them and charged £20 to friends. Thought it was cheap but felt the 'real' cost of maybe £40-45 was not viable.I Dont make em anymore.

Mates rates are tricky things.

£15 seems way to cheap to me though tbh.

Thanks ladies I think ill charge her 20quid but I think if she wants to spread the word, Ill say I charge nearer 40. I am just starting out, not great at it yet but I think they are good enough to sell. So the more quilts I get the chance to make the better.

why don't you have a look on Etsy for some handmade quilts and see what they're selling for there? I handmake jewellery and tend to go for the 3x materials rate, but then I don't know how labour intensive quilting is (a lot, no doubt!) or how much the materials cost.
