I've had a brainwave, will it work?

I was in Wilkinson's this morning. They have small terracotta plant pots for 29p and hyacinth bulbs, 3 for £1.30.

So, I thought the children could decorate a pot and plant it with a hyacinth for the teacher pressies this Christmas, and possibly for Grandma and the nice old lady next door too.

Do you think it's a good idea and if so, what kind of paint would you use?

I would have thought poster paints or whatever the ones in squeezy bottles you can buy from wilko's are would be ok. But don't quote me on that

readimix paint, or acrylic if you have it, but also varnish the pots - can use proper varnish or dilute pva if you use acrylics

and yes, l ovely idea I have done it with mindees in the past

Paint the pots with PVA first to give a good base.
Or mix the poster paint and PVA together - it'll take longer to dry, but be nice and shiny!

that's a brilliant idea, may I steal it for my mindees and my kids too?

For younger children or ones who might object to having paint stained clothing, you can decorate them with stickers, feathers, bits of ribbon, etc., then seal the lot in with a good layer of PVA once they're down for the night.
