Mohair jumper far too long

Morning all. I’m hoping for advice on blocking a mohair jumper. I didn’t knit it but it was made for someone else at a distance, so the length was guessed at. Now it’s been tried on and is far too long; the sleeves come about halfway down the hands and the hem to just above the crotch. It was knitted on circular needles.

I’ve read that spray blocking is best for mohair so I’ll do that, but do you think, if I pin it out as close to the desired length as I can, I can achieve much reduction in length, or will someone have to bite the bullet and unravel (I can knit but am very rusty and have only made a baby jumper in the round)? Thanks for any advice.

Has the jumper already been blocked once? I have successfully shortened a jumper by doing a second blocking after the first blocking made it too long - I lay it flat and just carefully sort of squeezed it and pushed it back up to the length I wanted.

If it’s not already been blocked I don’t know if that would work and suspect it may need ripping back and re knitting. Probably worth a try either way as it won’t hurt it, and you can then always just rip back if it doesn’t work!

Ah thanks I think I’ve decided that’s probably the best I can do - try it and see. I don’t relish the prospect of ripping out and re-doing the rib but I may have to (or find someone more adept than me)!
