One of my friends is turning 40, and she has asked for craft supplies for her birthday. She makes jewellery and trinkets, and I have absolutely no idea where to start. I want to spend around £50, does anyone have any ideas, please?

Gift voucher for hobby craft or similar

I think maybe something a bit more special for her 40th.

Could you get her a voucher for a craft making experience?

I make jewellery. There are several different online jewellery shops I buy from . Have you got any more info on what she likes to do - beadwork ; metal work or art clay ; necklace and earring making - I might be able to direct you to a suitable shop for a voucher if that is what you want to get

Hobbycraft are pretty rubbish for jewellery I wouldn’t recommend going there . .

Hi there, she likes making jewellery and trinkets. I think it’s clay!

I wanted to get her something she might not have, which is tricky because I have no idea what she does have

Metal art clay is fine gold, silver or even copper metal powder mixed with a burnable polymer. You create your design in clay , then burn if ( you can use a gas stove ) and then polish the remaining now solid metal piece.

The clay is quite expensive ( about £40 for 10g of silver clay not sure what the gold costs , copper is about £30 for 50g) . 10g will make one piece of pendant jewellery or a pair of earrings.

I have bought it from Kernowcrafts based in Cornwall who also sell kits for starters .

if she does use Art clay then I would suggest some clay itself because it’s so expensive ( I expect Amazon sell it too) or some moulds or textures for improving designs. If she has never done it I would suggest a starter kit which includes the tools you need to fire it in your kitchen in the cooker or with one of those hand held Bunsen burner things people use for brûlée or meringues in baking .

if she just uses Polymer clay to make jewellery it will undoubtedly be coloured and probably fimo or similar. I would think about moulds if so.

There are many moulds for creating pieces out there which could be an idea for you , some Etsy sellers have quite unusual ones , The art clay ones can be used and even Hobbycraft sell these in the area with their resin kits . That’s another thing to think about too . For resin you mix 2 liquids together which harden pretty quickly. So you can capture dried flowers in it for example. These can then be incorporated into jewellery using a cabochon finding ( metal thing it sits in which you can then embellish with beading etc if you want to.

Anywsy hope this gives you something to think about. I would love you as a friend!

Good luck!

I’ve just bought a mosaic tile bowl kit from a company called Little Creations as a present. It was £49 and looks lovely quality (I’d quite like someone to buy it for me!)

Or there’s a resin kit company called Mouldd that is tempting me recently too. Lots of different budgets

Littlelambseativy · 05/04/2026 16:02

I’ll have a look, thank you!
