I’m interested in getting one if I can cut shapes out of cotton fabric. Does anyone know if this would work?

I have a Cricut Joy but haven't tried cutting fabric. So I'm not much help! It's not brilliant so don't rush to buy one of those.

You can get really fancy machines with a fancy price tag which I covet but can't justify.

I'll be watching this thread with interest!

I adore my Cricut. I don’t use it all that often, but every time I do I marvel at how fab it is.

(And yes, it will cut cotton easily. I often use it for felt.)

@toomanydinosthank you! Which cricut do you have? What do you use it for?
I want to design shapes and add a seam allowance on the design program and the get the cricut to cut them out of a lightweight cotton.

Don’t buy an electronic brother cutting machine scan and cut with the idea to cut fabric . The sticky sheet that holds the fabric in place as it cuts gets covered in fuzzy fur from the fabric. I was very disappointed given brother are well known for their sewing machines. I gave mine away to a card maker .

I think it will depend on how intricate the cut and the size your after as you’ll be limited to mat size with is 29cm x 59 cm I believe

I have. Cricut Maker 3 and it cuts fabric. I have cut felt with it. Do use the correct / dedicated mat (different colours for different adhesion strength and/or materials) especially as strands of fabric will inevitably stick to it. Check what size mat the machine will take before you invest.
Hobbycraft usually have several models on display and sometimes do demos.

Think about the volume that you need to cut. The cutting space on a cricut is small, and can only do one layer of fabric at a time, and because of the layout you will be wasting a lot of fabric.
But you could use the cricut to cut templates of the shapes you want. Or better yet get them laser cut out of plywood.

I have a Cricut Joy but I’m such a technophobe that I can’t work out to do it (despite watching lots of videos!) Must dig it back out.
