How to treat old/scratched wood

Hello, hoping this is the right place to ask this question!
I bought a lovely vintage sewing machine in a charity shop for my mum’s birthday, the metal bits seem to be working fine, handle turning smoothly etc but the wooden base is quite scratched and worn in places.
Just wondering if/how I can treat it?
Apologies, I am completely clueless about this sort of thing as you can tell so I am
hoping there will be wise folk here who can advise!
Can post pics later if that helps.
Thank you!!

I've heard that rubbing a walnut on scratched wood helps but I haven't tried it.

I have used brown felt tip pens in the past but can't remember what I did after that.

I will investigate the walnut! I feel like I’ve heard that somewhere before…

A good wood cleaner (the supermarkets sell them) followed by an oil treatment like Liquid Gold does absolute wonders. Often the main problems are grime from being touched too much while the wood has dried out.
