I’ve been really getting back into crafting lately and want to try out some fun, creative projects. I enjoy making things like decor and accessories, and I’ve been experimenting with art kits and crafts like loom bands, perler beads, and paper quilling. Recently, I’ve also started crocheting, which I’m loving so far!

However, when I search online for new ideas, I keep coming across the same suggestions—either they’re things I’ve already done or they’re way too expensive. Does anyone have unique, affordable crafting ideas or recommendations?

Are you looking for new craft ideas to try, or ways to develop your skills in something you already know?

either way, you might enjoy developing a practice of independent research and creative inspiration, eg by keeping a sketchbook. You could spend some time every day testing out materials and see what happens! I call my sketchbook ‘my little book of mistakes’ because only a small portion of my experiments ‘work’, but I always learn something and it gives me ideas for bigger projects.

I also follow artists whose work I admire on social media and then think about how they have achieved a particular thing, and try to copy them or do their work in my own style.

I crochet and get most of my wool from charity shops. Aldi currently have some for sale too.

-I live near the sea and collect seaglass and make frames pictures will them
-Macrame. I didn't make them, but bought macrame hangers for my indoor plants. Lots of youtube videos on how to make them though.
-I generally crochet blankets but have also made little flower hairclips for nieces

Have you tried cross-stitch OP?

We were in Hobbycraft yesterday and they had a lot of "kits" in their sale. There are loads of free patterns to be found online, and plenty that are only a couple of pounds for a printable pdf.

They had plenty of sale offers on other things too - embroidery, mosaics, decoupage etc etc.

I bought myself a paint by numbers which I have always wanted to try as an adult, but find most of the pictures too twee. Found a great abstract one yesterday.

I promise I don't work for Hobbycraft - other craft shops are available!

Go onto Temu and get some cheap beads and wire delivered. I got my most recent delivery today add I wanted to start making spiders to go with my beaded plants. Made this spiddy up in about 10 minutes, pretty good for my first try with no instructions and just experimenting.

I'm about to do something mad: colour in some relief wallpaper using my own patterns in felt pen. (Not on the wall, obvs - these are wallpaper remnants.) I'm hoping the mix of bright colour, repetition, geometry and 3D will be interesting, but it will probably be a disaaaaaaster like most of my pathetic attempts to be artistic!

Another idea, my mum used to make pinatas for nieces/nephews etc. Generally she'd buy a massive balloon, blow it up then glue on strips of newspaper. Only adding another layer once the first one dried, so papier-mache. Sometimes she'd add bits of egg cartons or toilet rolls to make noses/legs and then paint and decorate- generally to look like an animal. The children's ones had sweets, toy cars, bubble blowers in, but she also made one for a hen party.
