Very basic knitting skills - chunky jumper

I can only knit with flat needles. I have been gifted a few balls of super chunky yarn and I have 12mm needles. Someone mentioned that you can knit a basic jumper with two identical squares for the front and back, and two rectangles for the sleeves. Is it really this simple? I guess I'll end up with a boatneck which I quite like, and if need be I can pick up stiches and knit (or even crochet) a bit of a neck?
I am a visual learner but haven't been able to find a tutorial explaining this on you tube. Is it really this straightforward? I am able to increase and decrease by the way, but otherwise like I said, my knitting skills are pretty basic. Would love to hear your thoughts.

That is going to look very odd i think. Just Google for easy patterns, there are loads of them.

I've done that to make quick doll's jumpers (when I was a young child, age 8 or so), especially for tiny dolls, but not for a person.

I'm sure I've seen crochet cardigans and jumpers made in this way, which is the same principle (google 'granny square jumper pattern'), but I've never made one myself.

@longtompot thank you. I agree that's very doable. I can increase and decrease and read a pattern although I prefer following a tutorial. I might give this pattern a go although I want to use stockinette and not garter, but I think I can adapt that. It mentions circular needles but it's written for flat, right?
