arty-crafty kids party

have been asked by the mum of one of my art club pupils to do an arty-crafty session at her 9 yo daughter's birthday party in July

am meeting her tomorrow to discuss but have no idea about prices...she has said she wants to pay going rate but I don'tknow what that is...

it'll be for 1.5 hours and the plan is that the kids will take home whatever they make instead of party bags

any thoughts you have on how I can price this would be most welcome

or on how much people normally pay for this kind of thing (ie someone to deal with kids at party)

(I'm a stingy old dear who always entertains them herself (or rather gets DH to do it!!!))

(will be back later to ask for your ideas on what to do )

yes £80 for two hours for me is fine (although I know will spend hours more on the prep and worrying between now and then) - it's my first party and so I am charging a kind of "novice in charge of the kids" fee. Also I know her quite well, she sends two of her kids to me every saturday for art classes and her DS is in my DD1s class at school and it is really as a result of her pestering that I started doing any of this anyway so I kind of owe her

£80 is reasonable. I assume you will treat it as casual earnings? If you have other work though remember you will need to declare the income on your SATR and pay tax on it.

You might have to look at being self employed should you decide to do this on a more regular basis. Keep all receipts for anything you buy as they will be allowable expenses to deduct as a cost.

Sorry to put a dampner on things, would hate your great new businss to leave you caught of guard though.

Hi everyone,
Just to add to the party ideas, my niece went to a fabulous party near Newbury two weeks ago where they all painted pictures and the pictures were printed onto T-shirts using a heat press. The results were amazing - not those papery transfers you get but really, properly printed T-shirts. Bright colours, top quality fabric and apparently they wash really well too.
The company who does this is called Paint Me. their website is www.paintme.info.
The aprty mum said it cost £11.95 per head including the T-shirts, the artist to show them what to do and all the kit - and it wasn't too messy either.
Worth a try and very unusual!

Hi Jeangenie,
How did the art party go? if you are interested in doing another one, and SW19 isn't too out of your way, please get in touch - my 7yr old would love an art party in September.
