Is this even the place to be calling or is there another section for photography that I haven't found?

I've just bought 2 new lenses and am dying to drone on about f-stops etc.

I did GCSE and A-Level Photography. I used to work in a mini-lab. I have my own darkroom equipment. I have photographed at about 4 or 5 weddings. I would love to run my own business part-time. I have a EOS 300 & EOS 50e (both film cameras) and a EOS 350d. My favourite is the 50e.

Thank you Ingles. I really need to work on my business skills.

Saggar, I like your DDs pictures very much. I could cry when I look at some amazing pics on Flickr and realise that they've been done by a teenager!

I think you said you're thinking of getting her another camera. Can you stretch to an entry level DSLR or maybe an 2nd hand one which will still give better results than a compact, and I think you can now get them for the sort of prices a decent compact was costing 4 or 5 years ago?

Gosh saggar your dd's photos are great. I'm going to show ds1 the pegs and see whether he likes them (he likes most stuff to do with washing, washing machines and washing lines are his favourite things in the world ).

oh and the stairs, he'll love the stairs.

I like the milk bottles.

This digital compact was recommended in the product section.

Thanks for the comments. I'll show dd Considering she's using a crappy 2 MP camera and her phone they're pretty good.

Re the camera - the DSLRs are a bit bulky for her I think but we will have to go down that route eventually as she'd like to do something in photography at college/uni.

quickdrawmcgraw · 13/06/2008 20:43

She certainly has a good eye!

Some of the newer entry level slrs are quite small - well I think so now that I've got a semi-pro camera, which can be quite heavy with a large lens on as well. She might be happy to get used to it if she sees the difference in quality that it will give her.

There are some compacts which are a bit more like an SLR in their features - I think the canon powershot G9(?) is one, and I think maybe Nikon do one too.
Something which gives her manual control over the settings will teach her a lot about the science of photography, how the aperture and shutter speed affect the exposure and the picture, and so on.The results will never come close IMO to a DSLR though, so it's worth trying them all out.
