I know ,I'm being a pfm but is it normal development that my 2.8 old dd still prefers to do scribbles and will tell me happily that it's a scribble? She will occasionally try to draw people and understands where different body parts go. Also if I ask dd to draw a circle , she can do this. We do practice drawing/ painting for a bit most days. I think, I just assumed that when dd started to try and draw actual things, the scribbling would stop

She’s not even 3 why does she need to practice drawing every day?

YYYDlilah · 17/11/2025 13:37

She's obviously gifted. Contact the Royal Academy.

Seriously, it sounds quite normal. You could try drawing along with her.

Your post may be better suited to baby/parenting boards rather than arts and crafts. This is more geared towards adult creativity rather than child development.

Needmorelego · 17/11/2025 13:44

That's completely normal for her age.
Most children don't start drawing defined shapes until they're about 4.

My dd enjoys it and asks to. I never try to make her.

She is 2. She isnt talking fluently in 5 languages yet either.
Quit worrying honestly. Even adults occasionally have a scribble moment. And for sure a huge percentage of us are awful at drawing. Just let her be x

I'm sure she'll give Tracey Emin a run for her money........

Some of these replies are a bit blunt considering, it's such a light topic 😅. Thank you, to other posters who are happy to give helpful advice.
