Embroidery hoop for finished cross stitch?

I have made an enquiry with a local craft venue (they run workshops and have drop in sessions etc), asking whether they can advise on framing a cross stitch that I would like to give as a present.

She is wondering whether it will fit in an embroidery hoop. I don't understand why. I've only used hoops when I am working on a piece.

She knows I want it presented in a frame as she says they have a glue gun and also sent me a tutorial on how to frame, so I don't think it's crossed stitches wires.

Do you maybe fold it around the hoop so that the wood isn't showing and then put it in a round frame?

nb I am NOT experienced in these things (in case you can't tell!)

If it's a circular design I would imagine that she's thinking of something like this
Thinp 3 Pcs Embroidery Hoop Frame,3 Size Imitated Wood Display Frame Circle Embroidery Hoops Mini Embroidery Hoops Faux Wood Embroidery Hoop Embroidery Frames for Display Art Craft Sewing DIY Hanging : Amazon.co.uk: Home & Kitchen

It works in the same way as the basic round frame you used when working it but is designed to be a finished frame to present the work in with a hanging hook . You'd just need to tidy up the back (it's been a while since I've done one but from memory I cut a piece of felt to size to fit round the back . )

Thank you @P00hsticks
That would look nice and would work with my piece.
She is sending me a photo tomorrow before I (hopefully) go down on Wednesday to do it.

I'll post a pic here if it works out well. It's very small, I've had it for years and years and only getting around to finishing it.

It’s quite fashionable, if that isn’t a crazy word to apply, to display cross stitch in a hoop, trimmed and hemmed so that’s all you see. It looks nice I think, but traditional framing is also nice if that’s your preference. Make sure they’re experienced with framing this sort of work.

Thanks. Yes, the venue has drop in social sessions full of very skilled people and loads of supplies.
It’s a little gift for my sister, not like a wedding present or similar, so while I want it to look nice, looking hand made by skilled hobby crafters rather than an expensive professional is ok.

I did this, using the ring I made it on. Not so good as a gift, as the back is VERY messy.

I use double sided tape and wrap circular wooden frames in strips of fabric that compliment the colours in the cross stitch. You could also use wool.
I use a glue gun to glue a circle of felt to the back of the cross stitch.

Happy with this.
