Crochet cardigan... does this sound possible?

I'm currently jazzing up an old t shirt, crocheting along the sleeves.

If I cut a t shit in half down the front, crocheted each side, the bottom and sleeves, does this sound do-able? Or even make sense? 😂

Can you show a photograph of what you've done so far? I can't imagine it.

I think I can see what you're doing, OP. Opening up the t shirt at the front so that it becomes a waistcoat then crocheting round the edges and adding sleeves? If so I would check the weight of the crochet bits relative to the tshirt - assuming it's a lightish jersey cotton tshirt the crochet bits might be heavier and pull the tshirt?

I think you either need to do neckline as well as bottom, or neither and just the front. But I think doing all of them might make it look too busy. I also think there's a risk the front will hang really badly because of the weight of the crochet part.

Yes! Perfectly worded!

It's a cheap Primark one so I might experiment first and then splash out for a better quality one if it works.

Oooo I'm all for busy looking. Currently rocking leopard print trousers, crocs and a colourful t shirt 😂

I'll try it on a cheap one and let you all know 🥰

I'd love to see it finished, it if you've taken inspo from somewhere?

I've not seen a cardigan but the green t shirt one is my inspiration! 😊

I have done this with children’s clothing.

To fasten I made loops instead of button holes and I used 2/3 ply cotton yarn.

Thankyou! With it being for an adult (size 20), do you reckon double knit would work?

Have you got any photos of your handiwork too? 😃

My children are adults so sadly I have not got any children’s clothes to show you anymore.

I would only use cotton and not DK.

I did a blanket stitch along the edges and then crocheted into the top stitch.
