Preferably something we can 'do together'!

She is in a 'bored with all her toys phase'. The sorts of things we have are duplo, stacking cups & boxes, basket full of bits & bobs, books, shape sorter, drum, xylophone, a cat(!), a walker with blocks, soft toys, jigsaws, playdough..

Is there anything that I can make that will become something she might actually want to play with??

It's easy to make a post box out of an empty shoe box and it's something she can help with - stand on end, cut slit, paint etc - then you can make letters and parcels or whatever to to go into it - both of mine love things like this (age 3 and 20 months) AND WILL PLAY FOR AGES putting crap treasures in and out of it!

A dress-up doll? Mine loved taking the clothes off (never seemed interested in putting them back on mind - maybe should have called it stripper doll )
Will think more . . .

it.s not something you can make to keep but 'goop' is a great thing to play with at that age. mix cornflour and water until it's same consistancy as thick cream. give her 2 cups and a plate and let rip.

We also made a precussion instrument with an empty water bottle and some rice. fill it to about about 1/8 th full of uncooked rice and glue the lid on.

make bean bags. sew 3 sides of 2 pieces of material back to back. turn inside out and fill with uncooked rice and sew the last side together.

finger puppets? or spoon puppets - then she can help draw the faces and stick on the hair.

Ooooh you are all very good!!! I like your ideas very much and I must now try and locate an old shoe box and some spoon hair! Cornflour and beanbag making is also a goodie.

I set her up with playdough (very infrequent activity) and then stickers & paper and the whole lot took 4 minutes before she got bored .

Do you make up stories with her? I'm just wondering if making a story to do with the characters you create, however simple, might be the key to her not getting bored and running with the imaginative thread, as it were?

I have a 20 month old and she quite likes paining the side of the house - just water in a container and away she goes. thinks it's great. Quite likes dolls and putting them to bed. and building towers with things
