Crochet Pattern - help!

Can anyone explain this pattern, please? I'm trying to visualise it & I get lost at the third row (& I'm winging it for the second row, frankly) as there would seem to be a line of 7 chain stitches hanging off it & I don't know how you spiral in rounds with that being there. Also, why would you do a 'lifting chain' to lift you to the correct height for a dc (presumably) when you've just done 2ch?

I really wish the author had included a chart! Such a shame, as it's a nice result but I find it incomprehensible.

Patch - Crochet Fox

With this simple crochet pattern you can crochet a fox patch. Of course the fox fits great in the fall and can be combined with other autumnal patches.

Ok I read the lifting chain as a chain that you normally do at the end of a row in order to turn, as you’re working in the round the chains part way through you chain 4 and then 2xdc into the 2nd chain and the 3rd ( the ears then turn the work where it say rotate and carry on the other way
to finish the ears ( the trebles etc)
Essentially the 2nd row makes one ear and the third row makes the second ear

i can see it but an clearly struggling to explain!

Thank you! I thought it must be making the chin first 😂. Will take another look.

It’s certainly not written in standard terminology.

  • like this “5x 1 double crochet stitch (UK!) into one stitch

I initially interpreted it as 5 DC into same stitch (presumably 2nd chain from hook), but realise from looking at rest of pattern for that row there’s an argument for 5 DC into 5 individual stitches.

Also what’s a lifting stitch? Never heard of that.

The instruction “into the chain stitches”
also confuses me as it doesn’t say whether it’s the chains you’ve just made, or the chains from row 1.

I think it's one of the worst written/translated patterns I've seen for a while. Lifted stitch? I guess the chain 1 you normally ignore at the start of a row, but honestly I think the heat has fried my brain as I can't get how to do this pattern

Shortpoet · 14/07/2025 11:32

I think the 2nd round starts with stitches I’ve marked in blue, then goes into the green stitches.
I think the ears are made in round 3.
But how round 2 works is a mystery for me. It’s possible an instruction has been missed involving slip stitches to get to right place.

I need some time to work out 3 and 4. But designer has an odd way of writing. When she say “into one stitch” she often means into each of next stitches along row. Not all the 5dc go into one stitch only.

That was confusing me.

Thank you so much (& to everyone who puzzled over it & answered). In the end I gave up on it & used a beading pattern, but knitted! But if you manage to work it out, the world of internet crafting will be grateful - I've found another confused crocheter who wants to make it, on FB.
