It's knitting, not crochet.

I also wonder if your photo is the reverse side of the garment.

Maybe some of the stitch examples shown here can help.

It's just been worked in rows of different colours and different size needles and an irregular pattern of knit/purl rows.

No this is 100% crochet because I have seen a video of the person crocheting it but I couldn’t figure out what Combination of stitches she used.

No it’s 100% as I saw the person in the video crocheting it but I couldn’t figure out the multiple stitch combinations she used in the video.

I think it’s Tunisian crochet.

IDoLikeToBeByTheSea · 11/01/2025 02:43

This is the pattern for the video screenshot- www.etsy.com/uk/listing/1823018884/?ref=share_ios_native_control

I can't see it very well on my screen, but here's a link to some crochet stitches that look like knitting - nearest I can see to it is "camel stitch" (no idea how to do it myself).

Looks like it's American terminology (eg our double is their single crochet, our treble their double etc).

ploppiness · 11/01/2025 09:34

It's Tunisian crochet. I don't know the stitches, only done a a small amount but a stitch sampler should give you an idea

ifIwerenotanandroid · 11/01/2025 21:40

Buy the pattern?

CrochetBug · 11/01/2025 21:45

I think it's a combination of front and back post stitches. Looks like mainly trebles.

CrochetBug · 11/01/2025 21:47

It's trebles worked into the back loop on the video.

Definitely not knitting. And definitely not Tunisian crochet.

This is based on the etsy link posted by PP.

Maybe she doesn't want the pattern? She might just want to use this stitch for another project.

Well the point is, if this stitch can only be found in the pattern & it was invented by someone, perhaps that person should be rewarded for their creativity. If a pattern creator chooses not to give their work away for free, then you have to pay for it or go without.

The stitch wasn't created by that person. I've used it before. Using it in that exact order and stitch count is what the pattern creator has done.

It's a beautiful pattern though, I'm tempted to buy it. Although it's expensive for a hat!

Pwincessb · 22/01/2025 12:21

Looks like Tunisian crochet to me

Londonmummy66 · 22/01/2025 12:40

Its not tunisian as the photo shows someone with a normal hook. I think that the pattern is worked onto a base chain in 3 rows. Probably

Row 1 - treble into each stitch
Row 2 - treble into the bottom loop of each of the previous row's trebles
Row 3 - double into the back loop (or possibly back post) of previous row.

This would create the effect of a double braid.
