Cost for turning a corduroy dress into a pinafore?

Hi all - I've no idea what is a reasonable cost for this - anyone got any insight into what I should expect?

Can we have more information?

Howe, it’s likely to be more that what you would pay on Vinted .

Surely it would have to be at least two to three hours of measuring you and fabric, cutting, marking, stitching etc.

Couldn't be less than £20 an hour.
So £50 - £60 net MINIMUM if you supply the fabric.

Then you'd have to also buy the clips and buttons for the front fastening. Say £10.

Although I suggest it could be significantly more than £60 -£70 net.

You'd be better just buying one?

Depends on the dress. If it can be chopped at the waist, so the skirt needs no alterations, then just making a bib and straps with presumably sufficient fabric from the bodice, say 2-3 hours work plus haberdashery / notions. I'd say upwards of £70 depending on complexity. There's a lot of skill in alterations.

Are you changing the shape of the skirt (more expense) or just removing the bodice above the waist and chopping that up to create the bib and braces format of a pinafore?
As a guestimate (and I'm a dressmaker), I'd suggest the above posts are pretty good estimates, you're looking at least at £70, if not more. I know I'd allow more time than you'd expect. Unpicking the bodice and the time spent pinning paper to you to create the pattern for the new bib top and braces would be about an hour. That's not even into sewing time and fitting. Cost of the clips and matching thread would be another £15 or so (I'd ask you to supply these - you can spend the time finding them rather than it eat into my day).

Depends what type of pinafore - a bib and braces one out of a dress is going to take quite a bit of time and need some additionaly haberdashery.

Lopping the arms off a dress and changing the neckline so the dress becomes a sort of button down pinafore/tunic thing probably will take a bit less time.
