Moss stitch crochet throw

Can anyone help me work out how much double knitting weight wool I need for crocheting a large throw/single bed size blanket please? Or suggestion for a pattern?

I’m in a bit of a rabbit hole looking at free patterns and YouTube videos. They all seem to be chunky or Aran and I’d like something lighter.

Your yarn provider? Unless you’re buying on line. But this is what your local yarn store will help you with, understanding the individual yarns they sell

That assumes everyone has a local yarn store.

I’d work up a swatch in dk and chunky, measure the difference and do the calculations from there. Hopefully others have a better way though!

If you look on ravelry at similar patterns it will give an idea and then yarn has yardage/meterage on the ball. You can even check that on ravelry before buying if you use the yarn tab and search brand name.

If it helps, attic 24 blanket kits are usually 15 balls of stylecraft dk I think.

Thanks I’ve got some leftover yarn so I will give that a go! So obvious now you say it ….

I've just used 10 balls of DK to crochet a blanket which fits more or less exactly over a double bed - I used treble stitches and variegated wool so that there were no colour changes and part used balls.

Thank you @Iwantacampervan thats really helpful, your blanket sounds lovely!

You could email Black Sheep Wools of Culcheth.
They are very helpful and do mail order for a wide range of yarns. I think they would help
