Simple trousers pattern? Beginning a capsule?

I've recently got into sewing and made a couple of tops and loved it. I wish I'd started years ago. I'd really like to find a pattern for some semi smart trousers, suitable for the office, ankle grazer with a turn up and sort of tapered. Not tight but not hugely baggy either. Any ideas?

My basic machine doesn't have a buttonhole on it and I've not attempted a zip yet (nor elastic), in fact, I probably don't have a zipper foot for the machine so I'll have to upgrade at some point.

Any idea of a good pattern? I'm coming to the feeling I'd love to just make my own capsule wardrobe and largely be done with the shops!

Sew House Seven Free Range Slacks meet part of that brief. The styling on the company’s website isn’t particularly smart, but you can increase the smartness-factor through fabric choice (and possibly changing the pockets..)

It’s a fairly straightforward, well written, pattern. No zips or buttonholes 🙂

Some interesting patterns on that site! I love the idea of finding a handful of patterns that work for you and just keep making them when you need to. I'm very drawn to the relaxed linen-y look but at the same time I still won't give up my skinnies as I think a neater fit suits me better. I'm short and wide and I have to remember not to overwhelm my frame. I'd like to try making trousers like these but it's an expense if they really don't suit you isn't it!
I also came across Nell trousers on sew something they looked similar but couldn't find much in the way of reviews or examples.

Closet Core Pietra trousers? CC have very clear instructions. They are pull on but come in a slim version.

It will be helpful to have a machine that does buttonholes, is it a mini machine or something as that's quite unusual. You could theoretically do one with a zigzag stitch though.

Slim trousers can be quite tricky to fit, it's worth making a practice version from some scrap material. Just getting the crotch, darts, waist etc correct is a bit of a challenge.

Yep it's like a half size machine. So very basic but otherwise a great little machine.
When I upgrade I'd like to get one with a one step buttonhole. I think I'd like a janome as that is what ours is with a john lewis brand on it.
Pietra trousers I have come across, I have a few things bookmarked now it's just working out the simplest and best shape for me!

If you want to try a pattern out to see if it suits you without using expensive material, go to a charity shop and buy a double duvet cover to practice on. Even better if you can find one in an okay print you don’t mind. You can always just wear them around the house if you don’t like the pattern but saves you wasting a lovely fabric.

Hi I have no advice on a pattern but would echo trying it out on old fabric too. My other tip is to look up the pattern on instagram to see what it looks like on a similar body type to your own.
