How easy are they, I've seen one for sale locally but it's a lot of money for something if its annoying to use

I’ve used one for around two years, there was a bit of a learning curve but totally worth it. I found the Projectors for Sewing Facebook a great source of information especially around the different type of protectors when I was first looking for one.

I very rarely use paper patterns now.

Thanks at this stage I don't have a clue

But is it for pdf patterns only?

PDF patterns work best, but you can project other patterns. I also project patterns that are designed to be printed so AO patterns and smaller ones too.

Thanks

I have pdf patterns that should be printed A0 &A4 so I guess it's those rather than old paper patterns

A lot of pattern designers release projector patterns alongside the A4 ones. Second the Facebook group, lots of handy advice there.

The hardest thing for me was setting it up so it's projecting straight down. You'll need to mount it to your ceiling unless you get an UST

Are the projector patterns the A0 ones or something different again?

Joined the fb group I'll look later

Thanks all

They're different to the normal A0 patterns as they have layers so you can just project the size you need

Thanks

I do, takes a bit of time setting up. Much easier if it's in a permanent place, as above loads of information on the fb group you have joined. Using a projector saves time and is so easy once you get going

Obviously no one can say for sure buy these are shelves above my cutting table which is about 1.8 by 1.4, is a projector on those shelves roughly in the right sort of place (centrally across the longest length) or is it more likely to need to be at an end?

You need to think about where the projected image will “land”. This will be different depending on whether you have an overhead or ultra short throw (UST) projector. USTs project the image in front of them, overhead projectors are mounted (either on the ceiling or on a stand) and project the image directly downwards.

I have a UST, this is my set up, before I had it like this I projected onto a cutting mat on the floor. I leave it here all the time so I don’t have to recalibrate it each time I use it. The projection is something like 98cm by 60cm.

I bought an Epson UST!

Fingers crossed I can calibrate it on my table!
