Crochet questions from me as a beginner

I was wondering no matter what wool I use if I use a bigger hook will my crochet projects be bigger? As a plus size woman I want to make things for myself but seems to take forever and loose interest if anything takes me longer than a week ....

Yes, but they will also be floppier/droopier/stretchier and will have bigger holes in, unless you choose wool that is thicker to go with the bigger hook.

Yes, using a bigger hook will make your crochet bigger more quickly. But unless you use correspondingly thicker yarn your crochet will be full of holes, like rubbish lace.

What are you making? Crochet rarely makes good clothes, you need knitting for that, which is even slower!

Crochet can make fabulous clothes! It's very fashionable at the moment. I make cardigans, jumpers, crop tops, hats, gloves and socks.

Crochet can make lovely clothes! And knitting is only slower if you're slower at knitting than crochet. My mum can knit quicker than she can crochet.

@kels96 like others have said a bigger hook will make a bigger garment, but it will be lacier.

Start with something relatively simple like a virus shawl, it works up quickly and is nice as a triangle scarf.

I wouldn't be trying clothes yet if you really are a beginner, it van take a while to get the tension right. Something like Coastal Crochets stash buster blanket is great as you'll learn lots of stitches along the way.

That looks great, @kels96 !

I'm a pretty experienced knitter and a reasonably good crocheter but it still takes me ages to make things! I've bee making a jumper for my daughter for about 14 months!

Thanks!!! So it's all crochet that might take a while not just me thinking am slow haha thanks so much for the advice I'll keep going x

It takes me about 3 months to make a blanket so that sounds completely normal.

Losing interest is also normal, it's why most crocheters have a WIP (Work in Progress) basket full of half done projects. My ex colleague had been working on a scarf since the late 80s and only finally finished it over lockdown!
