Which type of yarn weighs the heaviest?

I would like a yarn that weighs heavy when made up.. so maybe not acrylic or wool? Would cotton be my answer?

Preferably something that comes in Dk or chunky and is soft.

Could anyone help please?

In my experience cotton is definitely the heaviest, but it can be a bit stiff, so you'd need to choose the brand/ply carefully. A cotton/linen mix would give better drape and would also be fairly heavyweight.

Cotton yarn is easily available in every thickness from lace to aran. I've never tried (or seen) a chunky cotton yarn, but you could knit 2 strands of aran weight together to get a chunky weight. It might be very heavy or bulky though. I like Scheepjes cotton yarns but Drops Paris (aran weight) is also nice and a lot more affordable. Wool warehouse sell both brands.

I have a blanket made out of a cotton/kapok mix (I don't think it's available any more though) which is a nice comfortable heaviness. It's softer than the one made out of 100% cotton.
