How do I scrap-book???

GreatAuntieWurly · 31/03/2008 09:42

Well not sure if its scrap-booking or not. Anyway, have loads of pictures on the computer of when we went to eurodisney, along with a photo album that we bought and other bits and bobs (eurostar tickets, fast passes from the park etc etc) want to make a lovely keepsake for ds's to keep but dont have any idea where to start.

Simple ideas please.

Thanks

I don't think there are any rules to scrapbooking... if there are, I am sure I am breaking all of them.

The essence is putting together a keepsake. The simplest way is to get a regular scrapbook (old fashioned type) and to cut and stick the photos and tickets etc on the pages... I would suggest mounting everything with lots of lovely colours...

Type up some words to describe what you felt/did/saw/heard to match the photos - mount that up too, perhaps type it is your favourite fonts?

You could always get a fancier scrapbook, if you feel that would be more in keeping with it being a keepsake... with pages that sit inside a clear sleeve (if you know what I mean?) - that would enable you to do pretty much as above, but add more 3d embellishments... bows, flower, disney characters?

Sorry, I am not a professional scrapbooker... but I didn't want to not give you a tip or two...

more ideas here

Ready · 31/03/2008 21:18

Told you I wasn't a pro

Walnutshell · 31/03/2008 21:26

hmm, actually don't follow my link - there aren't many examples. Just thought 'creative memories' would have more as they operate a sort of scrapbooking direct-selling system.

I know someone who has done this fairly cheaply with resources from The Range (acid-free paper etc) and kept designs simple and based mainly around the photos themselves rather than scrapbooky bits.

Sorry, you need pictures for that to help!

champs · 01/04/2008 02:00

hiya!!

dont wanna sound all bossy but dont use an old fashioned scrapbook, many are not photo safe. You'll need an album that's acid and lignin (sp) free.

You'll need card(stock) as a basic and paterned paper is really nice to have - although not a necesity, i cant enuff of PP tho and have far too much LOL.

get some A&L free adhesive - a glue stick, craft glue, double sided sticky tape, glue gun, glue runner.... the list is endless.

journalling can be done by hand or you can print it off. If you want to write on the photo's you'll need a photo safe pen(s). Archival pens are best as the writting wont fade for years.

then embellishments!! yummmm!! cant get enuff of these either!! did i forget to say i was a stash hoarder??
just go for bits that you like - brads, buttons, blooms, sequins, rub ons, bling, ribbons/rikrak/trim again an endless list

You can use stickers, hand cut or die cut letters cut from card or PP, chipboard (very popular at th moment) rub ons.....

theres tons of disney themed stash that you can buy let me know if you need links or you can do an internet search.

can you tell i get a little excited talking about scrapping?

another idea, you could make a minibook to have a hand ready keepsake.
there's so many different types of minibooks you can make/buy

oh and if you are a bit daunted by scrapping in 12x12 you can always try 8x8 or 8x11.5 or even a4

just yell if you need me to waffle more

champs · 01/04/2008 02:04

oh forgot to say... may be an idea to maybe scan and print the tickets and bits and use them on your pages, you can always make a pocket for your album and put the originals in there, a few albums have a pocket in them already.

or you could use pockets, envelopes etc on your actual LO's

Champs ... I have used old fashioned scrapbooks for some retro books I did, with newspaper cuttings and photos printed off the computer... I thought that because it was on paper and not photo paper it would be ok? Have I messed up royally?

GreatAuntieWurly · 01/04/2008 10:23

Thanks for all the ideas, off to raid the kids craft sutff.

And how many pages are usually in scrapbooks as am thinking of doing lots of different ones for all the diff hols/birthdays/kids etc etc.

Sooo excited - have always wanted to be arty (i'm not at all!!!! (sob))!!!!

GreatAuntieWurly · 01/04/2008 10:31

I have a couple of magazines and a book about scrapbooking that you could have just for postage cost

Magazines:

  • 3 x Scrapbooking (Memories & More)
  • Creative Scrapbooking
  • Memory Makers (Playful Scrapbook Layouts)

Book:

  • Start Scrapbooking (Step-by-Step Scrapbooking)

ready if you look at old scrapbooks and even photo albums that aren't A&L free, you'll see yellowing of paper, photo's also yellow or brittle and "eaten" away etc, thats from not using A&L free stuff.

thing is really how long you want to keep your memories for, if you want them to serve as memories for future generations then it's best to use A&L free items and do best to preserve.

however if they're just for you or just to have for "now" then you can be less so.

I tend to be a little less "careful" when i make minibooks etc.... even paper bag books i dont really double check the actual bags are safe, but i do use A&L free cardstock to matt the photo's first. Also when i use mount board i havent actually checked.
Also if you want to use items you're not sure of, you can make sure you place them far away from the photo's i guess.

sorry i made you feel gutted can you redo the s/books maybe.... over a while, one page at a time you could take the stuff off and redo?

LOL wurly!! poor kiddies

tootired, re cheaper options, as wurly said, pound shop often has some goodies, just becareful as some things aren't that good for s/booking... cant remember who it was here but they used a sticker and it burnt the photo.
I love £ shop stuff tho,
the range has great prices and even grocery stores have been known to have things that can be used as stash.
ebay is a good place too.
also look out for sales and discount codes for craft stores.

Bless, don't you worry about making me feel gutted... thankfully only 2, and they can be redone... I am pleased you said. I'd have been more gutted in 5 years huh!
