I am clueless.
DD is an avid drawer and colorer, I have no clue! Please can someone with who understands these things help?

I'd like to get some nice pens - a big set - and a drawing pad - blank pages

Thanks so much

Copic markers are 'generally' what most graphic designers and comic book illustrators (when not digital) tend to use.

But they're not cheap

HookerSchmooker · 15/03/2024 14:37

My daughter is the same with her art and she uses and loves Ohuhu markers and Pigma micron fine liners and uni pin drawing pens for finer lines etc. hth

Get marker paper too so it doesn't bleed

C1N1C · 15/03/2024 14:38

Ohuhu are what I'd consider to be a close second. They're slightly cheaper, but you can't refill these.

Copic are refillable with a greater number of colours.

So it depends on who you're buying them for... basic graphic design in collegeor cadual art, Ohuhu are probably sufficient. For published work, I'd err on Copic.

If you're curious, just look up Copic vs Ohuhu on YouTube, you'll see hundreds of superhero videos and see what quality you're looking at :)

It really depends on your budget.

Posca are a good all round brand, reliable, good and consistent pigment and smooth(ish) application. They’re more a beginner pens.

As above, Copic and tombow are used professionally but have a price tag to match.

Can’t go wrong with a posca pen

User19792 · 15/03/2024 14:56

Sorry, you are right - budget - under £50 for a nice pen set and a drawing pad
Thanks - looking at suggestions now

If you're looking under £50 then the Ohuhu set (Jazza did a comparison of all the alcohol markers available on the market and the Ohuhu set came second to the Copic only because of the lack of refills) and a Canson XL media sketchbook. The sketchbook is perfect for markers and the Ohuhu look lovely in it.

BloodandGlitter · 15/03/2024 15:01

Posca are a completely different beast from Ohuhu, Posca are paint markers and Ohuhu are alcohol markers. Alcohol markers are far easier to use than Posca especially when it comes to blending and layering.

Amazing, they have some Ohuhu at 28% off on Amazon for a nice set, I will get that and the matching book. Thanks so so much everyone.
The Copic ones look amazing!!
