Knitting patterns question

Hi, I'm part way through a knitting pattern and am now confused by some instructions if any clever knitter could help that would be amazing!
The instruction me is: 2nd row: Pattern.**

What do the two * mean?
Tia.

The instruction above will contain part of it with a star at either side of it. That's the bit you repeat.

Roundaboot · 12/03/2024 17:33

It's to indicate a repeating section. So somewhere in the pattern it should say something like "repeat from to end of the row" or "repeat from to ** twice more".
Does that help?

Can you put a photo of the pattern up?
Usually, the stitches that repeat to make the pattern are in between two * and then the pattern will say "repeat * three times" for example.

Thanks! I'm new to knitting so getting my head around the abbreviation is taking some time 😊

I've done the initial shaping of the raglans then am at the part where it says for all 5 sizes. It is the 2nd row patt. * that had me confused.
I can't see any other stars any where else in the pattern

The pattern is king Cole 5015 if that helps.

It looks like a plain stocking stitch jumper, so I would say that the pattern bit refers to just continuing in stocking stitch as you did to the armholes. It could have been written a bit more clearly though!

jellybe · 12/03/2024 17:46

Thank you, yes it could be a bit clearer 😬😁

Hi OP
I have this pattern- just found it and if you look a bit further on in the pattern to where the BACK instructions are it says Work exactly as instructions for front until ** is reached, so that’s why it’s there
Hope that helps.
