Stash Storage in Kallax - how do I stop it falling out the back?

So I have a large Stash (Carefully curated collection imo) stored in Ikea Kallax and other pigeonhole type storage

But it all slips out the back

I cant afford to put hardboard backs on them all so I am experimenting with different ideas

Stapling ribbon in a cross or vertical strips - cardboard? (need a lot of cardboard)

The straps you get on large boxes as a cross/strips

Ideally I dont want to buy anything new and although I have a lot of it I'm not sure fabric at the back will hold everything in place

Has anyone any ideas?

I’d ask on Freecycle and any other local groups (we have a Facebook Freecycle for our local area) and see if people have any hardboard for a start or mount board. Normal cardboard isn’t always great.

I'm not sure I could even cut the hardboard to size tbh

There a woman on Instagram that makes everything out of Kalax very interesting to watch .
Don't you use the storage boxes you buy to put in them?

I’m assuming you haven’t got room to put than all against the wall but can you put them back to back and see if that helps?

They don’t really sit flush on the wall if you have skirting boards. We put hardboard on the back of DDs.

They are in the attic and against the eaves space so there is nothing behind them

Actually that has given me an idea let me check, I have some display boards that might work for some of them

Found some hardboard I didn't know I had, and some display board - shall I try staples? Or hot gun? I guess staples first as I'm trying ro reduce my hot glue usage

I would say small nails and hammer might get you a better finish. Depending how powerful your staples are to get them through the backing and into the unit might be hard.

2 bits of display board in & it's working fab!!

One piece is nailed on and a second piece is just wedged against the uprights separating the eaves!

A total win! I just need more display board and time to fold all the fabric!! I'd like to photograph it all but that might be a job for another day!

Good news. I would ask about if you need more, you’d be surprised what people have.

I spend a lot of my time rearranging my fabric then pulling it all out to find something.

KatyMac · 13/01/2024 18:24

And when you pull it out, it never goes back straight away

Or at least not in my house

It's all stored in rainbow order!! When it's not on the floor

I've done a third one with that plastic strapping off parcels and the staple gun and its worked remarkably well

I now have enough display board to do the rest of my units....I may need more units!
