Easy clothing to knit

I'd like to knit something for me, cardigan or jumper. I've already knitted a few small items and have used the magic loop.
I've not yet knitted clothing that needs joining up. I've got a Wool and the Gang tank top I might start with. Any other suggestions?

What about a top down sweater? It's worked in one piece until the bottom of the yoke then you divide for sleeves and the main part. Usually everything is knitted on circular needles and there's only a little bit of sewing for the underarms and darning in the ends.

For example, something like this from Ravelry.

Thank you, that looks promising.

I always advise people to just pick a pattern they like and want to make. That way you tend to stick with whatever learning curve you are on in order to finish the project. Win win - you get to potentially learn new skills and get a bespoke garment / item to use.

Having said that - I do like cables, shaped patterns and top down….!

Lauren Aston designs are lovely. Slouchy autumn/winter designs. Big wool. Big needles. Very straightforward too. I love her stuff.

@Aurora2023 Those patterns look lovely, thank you.
@Alphabet1spaghetti2 I'm trying to improve incrementally, so each project has something new for me to try.

Join Ravelery and use the pattern search selection for basic or easy projects. It really depends on what you want to do. Do you want to improve your stitches? Make a baby blanket or afghan. Sweaters ? Start with baby clothes- they'll teach you so much and can be accomplished with one or two balls of wool. Want to learn a new technique? Youtube of course.

There is so much free information out there! Happy knitting!

Sorry, just reread your thread. Start with a top or jumper first using a thicker wool with a large gauge and large needles. You can enter this information in the Ravelry search to find exactly what you want.

Try cabeletta- it’s a lovely top down, cable swing cardigan which is a lot easier than it sounds or looks.

agree with pp join ravelry and then look for pattern which highlights the new skill you might like to try. Be warned - ravelry can suck days out of your week and yet you never seem to run out of patterns to enjoy!

@Alphabet1spaghetti2
I've already spent many many hours on Ravelry just choosing hat patterns and the like. I'll have a look at cabeletta shortly.
I worry I'll start something and because it's too difficult I'll not finish it. So challenging...but no too challenging is what I'm after.
As much as I'd like to buy some of the patterns I need some idea of what I need to do beforehand in case it's too tricky for me. I tend to look at free downloads.
I'll check the library as well soon.

Have a look at Ashley Lillis on Youtube... simple patterns (some free some paid for) and video tutuorials that really are step by step.

Caterpillargirl23 · 29/08/2023 20:00

@Twosticksandstring Thank you, that's perfect!

Join Knittingparadise.com . It's a forum like MN and you can ask any knitting question at any moment of the day and get a quick answer or advice. It is a very helpful, worldwide, smaller community than Ravelry.
Especially useful for all kinds of technical questions when you are still a beginner.

@Whataretalkingabout
That's great, thank you.
