...a deep pudding basin shape sort of cake tin/pudding basin. I want to make and owl for my DS birthday and I need a large tin for the body but the nearest thing I can locate is the wilton wader pan which is really expensive. Have checked ebay and a few other shops and I'm sure there must be a large aluminium pudding basin that would be cheaper and do the job.

Thanks in advance.

what sort of size do you want?

staryeyed · 29/02/2008 14:05

As large as possible really.

Something like this perhaps.

KnitterInTheNW · 29/02/2008 22:11

Whereabouts are you staryeyed? I have a crinoline doll cake kit that has a deep pan to make the skirt, if you were near me you could borrow it.

KnitterInTheNW · 29/02/2008 22:13

Or I'd probably just make quite a few round cakes, stick them on top of each other with buttercream or whatever, then use a sharp knife to 'carve' the shape.

Thanks for your kind offer Knitter but I take it from your name that you are not near me- I am in North London. I had considered carving the shape but it could go disastrously wrong.

Ranting- the link came to the homepage of the website I looked through. The silverwood spherical mould looks good (although expensive). Was that what you were pointing out?

Yorkie do you happen to know how big it is and how much it costs?

Yes, that was the one, found these ones at nisbets, but am thinking they may not be big enough.

rantinghousewife · 01/03/2008 13:35

Actually, after having a browse this might be better. Ok, it's a mould but it's stainless steel so you could put it in the oven.

staryeyed · 01/03/2008 13:48

Ranting-I think both of those are a bit to small for the body but would be great for the head so thanks.

I think I may just have to fork out for the silverwood spherical mould and think of some ides of what to do with it later down the line.

I think you could get many years of use out of that spherical pan, love the idea of an owl, that would be great fun to decorate too.

I'm not making until April but will post a pic if your interested

Oh yes, would like that, don't bake half as often as I used to. Funnily enough, because of this thread, I've been looking at the cakecraft shop and dd has been looking over my shoulder picking cookie cutters for me to buy her
