I do memory blankets for family and friends and as I'm strapped for cash at the moment (thanks COL) was thinking about selling some.

I would just do this over face book on the sode alongside my job.

How do I go about this? Do I just advertise on Facebook and cracked on or do I need to do something first? Insurance? Tax?

Anybody do this and have any tips?

Have you considered Etsy?

I just looked at that, yes I did 😁.

I haven't no, I wouldn't know where to start.

The problem with selling craft work is that people don't realise the hours of work and the cost of materials that go into something. A blanket could cost £40+ just for the wool not to mention the time. Many people expect to pay Primark prices.

For that kind of thing I would suggest FB Marketplace. You only need to do self-assessment tax if your self-employed income is more than £1000 in a year. You can be a sole trader which is a lot easier than setting up as a company. I can’t see what you’d need insurance for, but you’ll need to have a solid returns/refunds policy and use tracked shipping methods. The only other thing to bear in mind is selling outside the UK is really complicated in terms of tax and customs. Personally, I would not bother doing it.

I’d look on Etsy fb for similar and see what others are charging how they market etc.
I met someone that did memory bears which were cute too.
go for it!
whatever else happens, you’ll learn a lot that will be useful. And bring happiness!

At first it would be good to share with your friends... and simply ask them if they know somebody who might be interested in your craft. People usually helps to spread the news. Also join the Facebook groups related to Family issues/needs and share. And remember to join various Craft groups were you can share your work with other artist. I do belong to different craft, art groups to share with people my jewellery designs. Don't forget about other online platforms.
